Want to hear something really strange?
 

I was PM'd the other day here on this site by a lady who found me to give me something.

An autographed belt signed by Sammy Baugh back in the late 1930's or early 1940's. The lady said her 85 year old aunt got him to sign it when he came to here store way back when.

They are packing up the dear older lady's stuff to go to a thrift store but wanted a fan to have this unique item. They googled "Sammy Baugh, Fan" and it led them here to me. She joined and PM'd me with the free offer. I'll be mailing her an evelope and about $5 for shipping and she's gonna send it to me. If it's a scam it's the wierdist one I ever heard of.

Is that wild or what?

I'm in Nags Head, NC right now but will be home tomorrow and get that out to her. I'll keep you posted as to how this turns out.

Hate to say, but I would say it sounds like a scam. Granted, for 5 clams it's probably worth the risk if it turns out to be legit, just seems random as hell. For your sake though, I hope it works out. Good luck!

That's a ton of trouble for $5 but you could be right.
I'm gonna risk it...what the heck. If it is what it's said to be it's a 1 of a kind I bet.

We should have a poll to see who thinks its a scam or not. I vote no because its only for five dollars and how many Sammy Baugh fans could you track down to get only five bucks from, But on the other hand she could be doing this for alot of different player and its worth five bucks to take the risk.

I would vote no scam, since you are pretty much limited to one scam per forum. Plus, other than to longtime Skins fans, Sammy Baugh is a pretty obscure reference. Then again, these scammers can be pretty smart.

Fact I bet is stranger than fiction.
I bet $5 this turns out to be legit.

That would make it a one of a kind item I would treasure and never sell.

It's not a scam for $5. What is this person trying to get rich $5 at a time? Send the 5 and if you don't get the belt just skip tomorrows mcdonalds value meal and your all square again...

Maybe I should call myself "Joe Theismann fan" and hope that someone will send me his old one bar face mask helmet some day.

BTW I saw Joe's helmet on ebay a while back. Apparently one of Joe T's x-wives got hold of it and sold it. I wanted it so bad..but the seller wanted thousands for it. The listing went unsold and never was relisted as far as I know.

I've heard of an autographed jersey, helmet, t-shirt, etc... but a BELT??! WTF?! How random is that? Did he win a WWF match?

i believe it, why not, there still are good people in the world. For example our very own FirstDown offered me tickets to a preseason game, not just 1 or 2 but 4, very kind of him.

I doubt that anyone would do that to take 5 bucks and the risk is very small vs. the reward. My only rule, post a picture for us to see. I would like to see a signed belt.

I wonder if Ade Jimoh fan club will get anything real soon?

I emailed the lady this before I went to the post office.

Ok, this is too cool. Not only is this not a scam to get my $5.00 for this one of a kind Belt Autographed by Sammy Baugh but the lady sent me back the change after shipping cost.

Wow.
What arrived was a small lady's leather belt with "Sam Baugh" signed on the inside. The signature matches the way he signed his name back in the late 30's and early 40's.

I can only guess that he came to the store she [now 85 year old lady] was a very young lady in her late teens or early 20's. She must have taken off her own belt to get it signed as the belt shows wear marks.

The lady told me to enjoy this item but if I ever sell it to share the money with her. I will NEVER sell this and will get a disply bot for this one of a kind treasure.

That was a great game last night. But I'm married to a Dallas fan, so he's not taking it too well.

Thanks for the picture of the belt! I was wondering what it looked like. Here is the story: My aunt used to work at Woodward and Lothrop's in downtown D.C. (Remember that old department store?) And one day Sammy Baugh walked in. My aunt, a huge fan, recognized him right away and asked him for his autograph, but she had nothing to write on. So she took off her own belt and he signed it! I'm sure she never wore it after that! She's held onto it since then, but since she has to downsize to move, she needed to get rid of some of her belongings. But she couldn't just give the Sammy Baugh belt to a thrift store. And that's where you came in. I'm so glad you have it, because it sounds like it ended up in the right hands.
