noooo!!!! i loved antonio brown. but that fumble did hurt us. who will be returning on special teams now? |
Re: Brown released, Nick Novak signed
Holy Shit....the statement has been made folks. Clearly the tone is set at Redskin Park this Tuesday the 13th of September. There will be ZERO tolerance for turnovers. Protect the ball or your ass is out. LOVE IT!
Hail all might JOE! |
Re: Brown released, Nick Novak signed
 Great, now the season is really over. What is Gibbs thinking?
|
Re: Brown released, Nick Novak signed
Brown had potential, and crazy speed. Sigh.

noooo!!!! i loved antonio brown. but that fumble did hurt us. who will be returning on special teams now?
Man, remember during preseason when Gibbs went off? Well, as much as Joe can go off. He said, "If you turn the ball over, you're outta here!!" Those were his exact words. Man, he wasn't kidding. |
Re: Brown released, Nick Novak signed
i think this is sending a message to the other players. i hope portis doesn't turn the ball over, it could be the end of his run in washington. ;)
|
Re: Brown released, Nick Novak signed
Brown was explosive and yes had potential...but remember last year in Dallas? Remember preseason? Remember last friggin week? His turnover damn near cost a touchdown! His fumble vs Dallas last year cost us a game. This guy was going to cost us at least another game or two this season. I was hoping he corrected it, but apparently not. He will land somewhere to haunt us I am sure, but he was KILLING this team with badly timed turnovers.
|
Re: Brown released, Nick Novak signed
This make Moss our returner?
|
Re: Brown released, Nick Novak signed
Now maybe the Ramsey thing makes a little more sense. We got away with a win after 3 turnovers and if that keeps up it might be our only win. Gibbs is making a statement and Brown was an easy release with thrash, Bettis, and Moss on the team. I just hope that Moss is only used in case of an emergency.
|
Re: Brown released, Nick Novak signed
The tone has been set and by benching Ramsey and cutting Brown Coach Gibbs is showing zero tolerance. I love it!! Its not as ruthless as Jimmy Johnson cutting that RB on Christmas Eve, but it has definitely stirred things up around here.
Brown got as much rope as you give a return specialist, I mean the guy has one role on the team and fumbling kickoffs is not one of them. Along with the drops and the fact that we already have capable replacements on the roster. This could end up being extremely beneficial, I'm geeked just at the thought of Moss returning punts for us. We haven't had that kind of excitement since the days of Mike Nelms. Brown was causing excitement too, just too much of the wrong kind. |
Re: Brown released, Nick Novak signed
Hmm, I thought this might be a possibility. Though I thought he might get one more chance to redeem himself. But as SportsCurmudgeon has mentioned before, if all that mattered was blazing speed then Cliff Russell would still be here

you only get chances on this team if you're named Mark. |

Ill....I think Mark Wilson was released so this statement is not correct... :laughing- |
Re: Brown released, Nick Novak signed
The bar has been raised. This is absolutly the right call imho.
In addition to turning the ball over I wouldn't get stupid penalties either...Joe is serious this year :) |
Re: Brown released, Nick Novak signed
Cutting Brown was a great move. He was cut in part to keep Hall on the active roster. 2 fumbles in three games? Goodbye... Thrash will return punts and Betts will return Kicks...
|
Re: Brown released, Nick Novak signed
good move
brown cant catch or hold the ball if he couldnt run that fast, he wouldnt be in the nfl |
Re: Brown released, Nick Novak signed
Brown can carry water for a living for all I care. Having speed doesn't make you a good player otherwise you’d see NFL scouts scouting track and field events. Besides, Betts can do the job.
|
Re: Brown released, Nick Novak signed
Brown's job was hanging on by a string after his shaky preseason. The string broke after his costly fumble.
Somebody wondered if Brown would be benched along with Ramsey, I guess we got the answer loud and clear. |
Re: Brown released, Nick Novak signed
what happens when Brunell gets his first turnover? bet you no matter what the circumstance, he'll get another shot.
what happens when Brunell gets his first turnover? bet you no matter what the circumstance, he'll get another shot.
If he's throwing 2-3 picks a game then that's a problem. Don't tell me the first time he has a turnover people are going to come screaming for him to be benched. Ramsey had 4 INTs in the preseason and another one Sunday along with 2 fumbles. That's a problem for any team. Are you saying turnovers weren't a problem with Ramsey? |

Hail all might JOE!
Amen JBCR14...Gibbs won't stand for turnovers. How many games did we lose last year because of stupid turnovers and penalites. Joe isn't going to tolerate it this year........Antonio gets cut, Ramsey gets benched....... |

You got that right! Brown although has amazing speed started to show why the Bills released him, you could finger tackle the guy, I was very high on him but the intagables started to rear their ugly head with Brown. Thrash is reliable to make a catch but not really a player who's going to do much on punt returns, Parson's I believe finished strong in the pre-season, maybe they will activate him off the practice squad? |

Re: Brown released, Nick Novak signed
ok so everyone is saying gibbs is to easy on brunell and brunell can suck it up and gibbs won't take him out. This is because he likes brunell.
well gibbs seemed to like antonio brown alot to, he was more giddy over brown than anyone else. He CUT him because he dropped the ball that nearly lead to us losing. I think everyone is being to hard on gibbs. Gibbs either took out ramsey because one of 5 things - He Hates Ramsey - He loves Brunell - He wants people to think he made the right decision bringing Brunell here last year - He is putting up a show and will start Ramsey on Monday - He truly believes that we will win more with brunell I go for the last one. |

"coach gibbs, are you confident in ramsey?" :gibbs: "no he is useless in the pocket and makes shitty decisions" hmmm, is that what you guys want to hear?? let the coach be the coach and you guys be the fans. gibbs knows what he is doing, you guys let the media translate and give stories extra toppings and some of you guys think you know the whole story. gibbs named a starter, but he didnt say that starter wouldnt be yanked at any given time. and i think they are both starting to realize that the redskins and ramsey arent going to work the way you want them to. face reality peeps who are critics. gibbs see's everything behind the scenes and hears alot more than our little interviews we get on skins .com and the post. YOU DONT KNOW BUT WHAT THE MEDIA GIVES US |
Re: Brown released, Nick Novak signed
I thought we should've looked at Farris as a returner. He's a solid WR too. :oink:
|
Re: Brown released, Nick Novak signed
Gotta love our depth at WR right now.

Re: Brown released, Nick Novak signed
he dedicated the entire off-season to Ramsey just to play for the media? i don't think so.

sorry i didn't clarify, i meant at QB. namely, Rypien and Brunell but whatever. |
Re: Brown released, Nick Novak signed
thrash and betts will return, moss can if needed... and parson can be activated if needed.
thrash is the ST guy and betts and moss are kinda important, so this leaves us a bit thin at WR... hope jacobs is ready to pick it up NOW. |

I'm really getting tired of people like you telling us that we have no right to as opposing opinions. We've all seen the games and a bunch of the practices, and that counts for something. Whatever happens behind the scenes, the on-field results are the most important measure. |
Re: Brown released, Nick Novak signed
i know everyone is talking about brown being released but I am real excited about novak being signed.why is this you ask well if you are a university of maryland fan than you already know.this kid was rock solid in college and boomed the shit out of the ball everytime.I just hope that will continue in the pros for us.any other maryland fans out there that agree?

Re: Brown released, Nick Novak signed
I'm gonna start calling Hall Mr. Glass man, if he wasn't hurt we could of signed that white boy who scored those td during the season... I forget his name
|
Re: Brown released, Nick Novak signed
Gotta love our depth at WR right now.
Yeah, that's a bit disconcerting. Really all we have now are four receivers. One of whom (Thrash) will be sharing return duties, and another (Jacobs) who has yet to prove he can be healthy on a consistent basis. That leaves us really thin. Do we call up Parson? Bring back Dyson maybe? But I'm also wondering is this just a temporary roster move? I mean they sign Nick Novak to a contract because Hall is hurt. But Hall isn't put on IR and we have a bye week next week. So Brown is released so we can add a kicker for this week. In a week or two, we cut Novak and resign Brown provided he's still available. It's a gamble, and not the smartest one in my opinion, but I suppose it's possible |

I think brown's turnovers killed his chances for this team. U can find many fast guys if u look hard enough, but guy that won't make mistakes if whats really important. Brian Mitchel u ready to come out of retirement? |
Re: Brown released, Nick Novak signed
actually nick novak competed with jose cortez in dallas in the preseason and from the reports i heard, he sucked. cortez easily won the kicking job. i doubt novak will be our replacement for hall, i think they would sign someone else. that's just my opinion though.

Actually, he spent the entire preseason with Chicago. They cut him in late August, then the Cowboys claimed him for a couple days, but eventually released him. From what I heard, he very nearly outplayed Brien with the Bears. |
Re: Brown released, Nick Novak signed
Anyone upset over the loss of Brown has not been watching the games. They have several people already on the roster that can do as good or better than Brown without the fumbles.
Basically the redskins are making all moves necessary to minimize turnovers. They are a ball control defensive team and that formula only works if you protect the football. |
