Collectors, what's the most unusual item you have?
After seeing the other guy post some shots of his collection, and after I picked my Jaw up off the floor it got me thinking of my own collection. I think I have a pretty cool collection of Redskins memorabilia and will take some photos very soon to share with you. When looking at it as a whole it dawned on me that I had a couple of very rare and cool pieces.
A couple of examples of things I might have that few others may have are: 1] Red Helmet Endzone Turf from the last game at RFK Stadium where we BEAT Dallas the "last" time. This was given to me by a friend after the game that had himself been on the field. I gave a softball sized piece to my Grandfather a few days later and his eyes teared up like I was handing him some original baby Jesus Manger Hay. [lol 2] Blue Prints for Redskins Stadium which became Jack Kent Cooke Stadium and then FED/EX Field. I have two sheets. One is and overview of the whole stadium and another is the HVAC plans for the Players Locker Rooms and Coaches Offices. This will be handy if we all sneek in somewhere on Draft Day. [hahaha] 3] I have a signed Sammy Baugh Full Sized Leather Helmet, Football and many cards and pictures. I also have [3] 1948 Sammy Baugh BOWMAN Rookie Cards. I'll post some photos of my collection this week which has many, many other items. The direction I am going now is to buy and take off the market ORIGINAL Black and White Photos of the very early Redskins era. I HATE it when I see the same picture on ebay that some guys is scanning and printing and makes stuff worthless. Let me get some pictures and I show ya'll a few things and who knows we find find a trade we can make to help each of our collections. peace and go skins! Remember that the return of only one person would be more important then the Coach Joe Gibbs...........JESUS. |
Alright Sammy, I'll create a huge diversion on draft day. I'll sneak in a Cowboys jersey and run around. Then you guys can break into the locker room, but you guys have to visit me in the hospital!
|
You put on a CowGirl jersey amd I'll help you BE in the hospital. lol
Draft Day will be fun and I can't wait to meet you guys. peace till then! mike <>< |
But it's for the good of the common Redskin's fan!
|
Sammy Baugh Fan,
sounds like you have some nice stuff. I would say one of my most prized possessions would be a game ball from the 1975 season. I was fortunate enough to have an uncle who was an Arlington Co. deputy sheriff who worked the games part time. He got me a ball that Mark Moseley kicked for a field goal. It is signed by quite a few players including riggins, monk kenny houston and some other oldies.. My next item would be a poster with 42 of the Greatest Redskins on it. I have collected 33 of their signatures on it and I'm trying to get the rest. Some other items that a special to me are a 1964 11X14 team picture with 14 of the players signatures. that year we had 5 hall of famers on the team and its signed by all of them. I also have a 1952 team picture 11x14 whitch was Sammy baughs last year signed by Sammy and 6 other players. i could go on an on but i think you all get the point... Sammy fan i would be interested in the older pics.. i have a couple extra 64 team pics that i would be willing to trade.. if interested contact me... "Hail To The Redskins" |
Hey 72skins thanks for the offer.
http://www.imagesculptor.com/redskins/ http://www.imagesculptor.com/redskins/ I just took a few pictures of "some" of my stuff as well as some scans of cards I have. I can part with many pieces as my collecting has evolved to wanting older stuff and well as Hall of Fame players stuff and the Topps/Bowman cards I am concentrating on. Hey Daseal, study the Blueprints for your deversion route. lol peace mike <>< |
Sammy Baugh fan,
you have some realy nice cards. love the old pics of sammy :O) If your interested i just got back a mini helmet i sent Sammy to sign. he signed it and returned it in about 2 weeks. He's realy good about signing stuff. PM me and I'll give you his address. "HAIL TO THE REDSKINS" |
Don't know if anyone would consider it unusual, but I have a 1971 Media Guide which is the oldest piece of my collection. And the old snapshots of when I was a youngster in the 60's at training camp in Carlisle. There's one with me standing next to Vince Promuto. Those Bermuda shorts were priceless!!!
|
It may not be that unusual, but I have a signed picture of Jack Kent Cooke walking his dog on the astro-turf practice field at Redskins Park. I haven't seen another one like, but don't know how 'unusual' it is.
|
Ive got all of you beat. Ive got the D. Sanders bandana that they gave away at one of the football games!!! TOP THAT!!!!.... On a slightly more serious note ive got a Reggie Brooks signed football that I thought was the coolest thing when I was a kid. I dont know if that beats teh pick of JKC though, thats pretty unusual. If only I could get my hands on a Tony Banks autograph.

Full sized Leather Helmet signed by Sammy Baugh. I have about 30 autos and a signed Sammy Baugh football and some more stuff. Enjoy and Hail Skins mike |

Re: Collectors, what's the most unusual item you have?
I have a football that my grandmother got me signed by...OJ Simpson
|
Re: Collectors, what's the most unusual item you have?
I tried to make copies of the blueprint but the company I took it to said it was copyrighted. I'd make 10 copies for some of you guys if I could.
I think 72skinsfan is in manassass and said he might be able to. I will still do it if I can. peace |
Re: Collectors, what's the most unusual item you have?
The most unusual item I have in my collection is one of the bids for the purchase of the team and stadium in '97 from the Cooke estate. The owner of my company (Charles Dolan) placed a bid for the team and the stadium. Obviously he failed and about two years ago I found two 4' white binders in a recycling container that had Redskin Logo's on it. To my surprise it was all the detailed information of all the items for sale by the estate including the stadium, the team, player contracts, legal affidavits etc. It's all a very boring read, but a unique collectible none the less.

Re: Collectors, what's the most unusual item you have?
I have a big lock of Jay Schroeder's hair that my mom ripped off of him during the Super Bowl parade in '88.
J/k I guess the coolest thing I have (from a personal standpoint) is a picture of me and Art Monk that was taken at his camp when I was about 10 years old. I'm rockin' the camp's hat, which had a Zubaz-patterned brim, so that rules. Plus I have another picture of my cousin and I from when we went the prior year, and in it Art is wearing a Hard Rock Cafe t-shirt and a huge fanny pack. You've got to love the early '90s. |
Re: Collectors, what's the most unusual item you have?
I have an autographed 1991 Mark Rypien card, I can't remember the make.
I used to collect cards when I was 12-14, but I stopped. That one sticks out in my mind as a cool collectible though. |
Re: Collectors, what's the most unusual item you have?
My mom underwrote a loan on a house for Mark Rypien. Afterwards, she met him at a restaurant and got his autograph on a napkin.

Is it signed in blood??? |
Re: Collectors, what's the most unusual item you have?
Growing up, my dad used to have Joe Theisman's toilet seat hanging on the wall in his bathroom, I thought it was the coolest thing in the world. He painted/remodled his Joe's house and took the toilet seat as a gag, the funny thing is the toilet seat was burgundy.

Re: Collectors, what's the most unusual item you have?
I have 2 packs of official Redskins chewing gum.
I also have an autographed team picture from around 1952 with Dick Alban's signature. He was at a NFLPA golf tourney 7 or so years ago. He was the shit back then. Lost the most interceptions that season to Dick "Night Train" Lane. "Night Train" set the record that year with 14 and he got like 3 the last game. At least thats what Dick told me and I don't havce any reason to doubt it. http://www.footballcardgallery.com/pics/1954-Bowman/51.jpg |
Re: Collectors, what's the most unusual item you have?
I've got a miller lite football autographed by Ben Davidson{tastes great-less filling!] of the raiders that I won at the greatest sports bar I've ever been to,no longer in existance unfortunely
They had a tire hanging from a rope in the cage they clocked people's fastball, most footballs to make it through the tire won damn i miss that bar,it had a dancefloor that was a boxing ring, with bleachers on each side and skyboxes, minibowling alley, caged basketball area, plus the pitching cage I already mentioned,it was called Houstons original Sports Bar I also won cash in a skyhook competition in the basketball cage,I entered a Larry Bird lookalike contest there but lost to a black guy,lol |
Re: Collectors, what's the most unusual item you have?
A blue print of redskins' Stadium!!! I'm just a little jealous.
The most unusual item I have are three of the RC cans from 1977 that are flat (never actually rolled into cans). I have four cards from 1935 as Boston Redskins The Leaf and Bowman rookie cards of Sammy Baugh A seat from RFK A trading card collection of Redskins team sets that uses 15 binders An original hand written version of "Hail to the Redskins"-----Just kidding An original photgraph of Sonny J and Coach Lombardi on the sidlines at RFK Lots and lots of other things including about 12 autographs |
Re: Collectors, what's the most unusual item you have?
i have always envied your collection SBF. I hope that someday i'll have a collection like that. I guess i will someday. I mean I'm already getting autographs on footballs and a few autographed jerseys.
My two coolest things are 1) my redskins jersey that is signed by 30ish players and coaches. Bugel, gibbs, moss, tayor, portis, cooley, samuels, jansen, griffin, washington, thomas, and others all signed the jersey. I got all the autographs in one year so its great. Its the players of the century jersey eBay: AUTHENTIC Washington Redskins Player Century Jersey 54 (item 280127793197 end time Jun-29-07 19:03:47 PDT) It has no holes in the jersey so it easy to sign and there are autographs all over the front. What i like is that there is no other jersey like it. I wouldn't sell it for anything. I am going to get that thing signed for the next 20 years. I love it. 2) Joe gibbs signed game ball used at the redskins ravens scrimmage. Also signed by chris cooley. I wish i didn't get his autograph on it though because it would have been nice to just be of gibbs. A ball used in a game(scrimmage, cough) that was coached by gibbs. I lik e that too. |
Re: Collectors, what's the most unusual item you have?
I have all sorts of items, but I think my most prized possession is my Super Bowl XXVI program signed by every player on the team including Joe Gibbs.
I remember when my sister in law got for me for christmas, I had to hold back the tears! |

Why? Cus it was available and no one else has one. I've had it 3 years now and never seen another one on ebay or anywhere else.' It's a rare find I guess is my answer and will look great in my BBQ Redskins Bar when I get it going later this year. |

Re: Collectors, what's the most unusual item you have?
I have metalized Washington Post, front page and sports section of the 88 Superbowl blowout. It was said these were used as printing plates on the Post printing machine. I bought these around 10 years ago on Ebay. That was before Ebay was over ran by power sellers. Most everything that was Redskin was unusual or rare. The good ol days.
Sorry for the choppy post but I cant post the pictures or the links here. My post count is to low still. Its been a struggle just to get this to work. Heres the link, just add the HTTP and copy and paste the link. It should work. ArcticRed49 - Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting |
