SI's Banks: "The Worst 3-0 Team Ever"
According to SI's Don Banks, we are the worst 3-0 team ever.
"I'm going out on a limb and labeling the Washington Redskins the worst 3-0 team in NFL history. And that's coming off their best game of the season by far."Link I'm not posting this to bring up the media bias or anything but instead to raise a question. Is there another 3-0 team in NFL history that could be considered worse to refute such charges? (Obviously I don't think we are the worst, but is there a team that ended up 4-12 or 5-11 after a 3 win start?) Any info would be great. I'll look around too. I can't wait to become the worst 4-0 team of all time!!! |
Re: SI's Banks: "The Worst 3-0 Team Ever"
Just saw the other thread. Can we combine these?
|
Re: SI's Banks: "The Worst 3-0 Team Ever"
I'm going to go out on a limb and say that you suck at writing. And like Thiesman's good leg said (still awating word from the rest of Theisman), I cant wait to be the worst 4-0 team next week.
|
Re: SI's Banks: "The Worst 3-0 Team Ever"
puhleez - there have been several bad teams that started out 3-0 - take the 2002 New Orleans saints for example. This is a cliched catch phrase - they say this about one of unbeatens every year. Why would anyone take Don Banks seriously - he's an even bigger clown than Dr Z...know why? Cuz Dr Z is more about trying to be funny than hardcore football insight. Don Banks writes (what he thinks are) serious articles on football. He simply has no credibility. Name one sports show you've ever heard Don Banks quoted in. Nuff said

Re: SI's Banks: "The Worst 3-0 Team Ever"
cough locker room material for next week cough

Re: SI's Banks: "The Worst 3-0 Team Ever"
Then he comes back with this in the same article!
• We knew the Moss acquisition was going to turn out to be huge for his new team. We just didn't know it was Santana Moss in Washington we were talking about.
Make up your mind clown! |
Re: SI's Banks: "The Worst 3-0 Team Ever"
Look, I think what we all trying to say is..... FUCK HIM.......:cussing:, I CAN CARE LESS ABOUT WHAT SOME, ANALYST IS SAYING ABOUT MY SKINS......WERE WINNING.....CAN'T DENY THAT
|
Re: SI's Banks: "The Worst 3-0 Team Ever"
I'm going to go out on a limb here and say Banks is the worst sports writer ever. And the Skins are going to make him eat those words.
|
Re: SI's Banks: "The Worst 3-0 Team Ever"
yeah who gvae hima job as a wroter ever? he needs to step down..what a fool
|
Re: SI's Banks: "The Worst 3-0 Team Ever"
Who cares I will gladly be worst 3-0 team than best 0-3 team. Whether you win by an inch or a mile winning is winning.

C'mon now.
I saw this article coming from a mile away. It was just a question of who would write the article first. It doesn't faze me in the least. Unless we have BCS ratings in the NFL, I'll just take the Ws! |
Re: SI's Banks: "The Worst 3-0 Team Ever"
One thing that surprised me (and I don't think the author of that article noticed) is that the Skins dominated that game, except for about half of the fourth quarter. If you take a look at the first half time of possession, seeing over 20 minutes for the Skins and single digits for the Seahawks really says something.
I think we are real contenders this year, but I think that these articles will keep coming until we pull off a really convincing win, and, hey, even Dr. Z has starting giving us some credit... |
Re: SI's Banks: "The Worst 3-0 Team Ever"
why is it that i care less about what the media thinks when we are winning?
|
Re: SI's Banks: "The Worst 3-0 Team Ever"
When you go out on a "limb" saying something like that, you're definitely having a bias. Why even "go out" at all?
|
Re: SI's Banks: "The Worst 3-0 Team Ever"
Fellas do we really care what this guy thinks? It has taken me some time to get to the point where I can think coherently after being at the game yesterday. Man, what a game!
I may have to change my nickname, to, "yee of little faith" for I gave up them after the interception. I looked at my brother-in-law and said, it's over they have lost we are outta here. Only to have my brother-in-law tell me to sit down, it is not over yet, and what do you know DOINK off the uprights, Skins Win! Like others have posted we are 3-0. Who cares how we got there we are 3-0. Besides how many media wankers predicted the Vikings and the Cardinals to be 'Sleeper' Teams. Yeah right, Sleeper maybe in the sense of they put you to sleep watching them, but no way are those teams play-off teams. Makes me think of famous Jim Mora meltdown, "Play-offs!!???!!??!!???" -D |
Re: SI's Banks: "The Worst 3-0 Team Ever"
The one thing that has pissed me off about these so-called writers is that I get the sense they are going to keep predicting our demise until something bad happens or until we put together a string of losses, so they can sit back on their fat asses and cheap suits and say......hmmmm, we told you so?!
What assholes we have for journalists these days. They sound off like a bunch of little bitches in a highschool bathroom - seriously! There's so much noise in there you can't distinguish any voice. By the way, does anyone have any idea what Sean Salisbury's/ESPN email address is?? He's just not convinced about this one, as he a said yesterday. I want to shoot him a quick email to "convince him"! Hail Skins! .....and Hail the return of the 12thMan!!! |
Re: SI's Banks: "The Worst 3-0 Team Ever"
I guess the fact that our offense clicked on all cylinders and our defense held yet ANOTHER "top 5" back to less than 100 yards (most of which came on one run, where there was DEFINITELY holding) isn't convincing enough. I mean damn, the Bengals BARELY beat the Texans. Come on now.
|
Re: SI's Banks: "The Worst 3-0 Team Ever"
...and Tampa barely, barley hung on to beat Detroit. But they are soooooooo good!! Bullsh**T!
|
Re: SI's Banks: "The Worst 3-0 Team Ever"
I mean the game would have been over had it not been for a blocked field goal and that late INT.
|
Re: SI's Banks: "The Worst 3-0 Team Ever"
Under the radar is where I'd like to be all season. I hope when were 12-4 or 13-3 or something like that we're the "worst x-x team ever". This aint college so opinions don't mean shit.
But for the sake of argument. How does beating two "playoff teams" makes us the "worst 3-0 team ever" ? |
Re: SI's Banks: "The Worst 3-0 Team Ever"
Pfffffffttt. I fart in his general direction.
|
Re: SI's Banks: "The Worst 3-0 Team Ever"
The main reason I'm pissed about this is because he said this after we've played only 3 games?! Give me an f-ing break. I mean damn, they'll take any chance they can get to take a shot at us. 3-0 teams happen every year and I've NEVER heard anything like that before. I thought that winning the close ones was what makes you a good team.
If we're the worst undefeated team in the league, what does that make the teams who've lost to us? |
Re: SI's Banks: "The Worst 3-0 Team Ever"
I've said this so many times in this forum, but I'll say it again. Sports Illustrated has become the McRag of sports journals. I lost all respect for the magazine and any of its writers (with the possible exception of King) years ago when they gave unequivocal support to Allen Iverson after his little bowling lane brawl. Later they printed 14 retractions from their story but buried it in fine print in the middle of the magazine. The magazine has no integrity and less talent. We should not even be discussing their opinion. Give me an analyst who really knows football that says this about Washington and I'll get upset. But SI? I'm feeling that gaseous feeling welling up again.

Seems to me there are so very few analysts that actually know what they are talking about these days. Either they're commentary is driven by ratings or showmanship, i.e. Michael Irvin, or they have some biasis against certain teams, i.e. Peter King. One guy I'm starting to like a little is Troy Aikman, even though he's more of a commentator. He doesn't get carried away with shit. |
Re: SI's Banks: "The Worst 3-0 Team Ever"
I will bet my first born, my nuts, my two dogs, even my beloved 1979 Les Paul that this parasite lost MONEY on that game!!!:laughing2

Re: SI's Banks: "The Worst 3-0 Team Ever"
Here's the deal--within 12 hours of the early game finals I am reading writers who are commenting on games as though they have watched and dissected each and every one. Do the math...13 Sunday games x 2 hours each (with immediate editing) is 26 hours just to watch the games, let alone break each performance down and write about them. [Even Dr. Z admitted that he did not watch the Dallas game until later, and only THEN did he change his opinion about the Skins] Just give me a homer, the box scores and highlights and I'll write my own opinions. Why do you think I hang out in this forum anyway? :cheers
At the end of preseason I posted that the thing that had me most impressed was the steady improvement by the Skins all through preseason. This has carried over in the regular season and the team is getting better by the week. You can SEE it....IF you watch the games. And yet the ONLY analyst I've heard comment on this fact is Jimmy Johnson on the FOX pregame show. I'm guessing that he actually earns his money. So let Don Banks meet his little deadline. Nobody will care anyway if we have January tickets to Detroit. |

Especially since they are just waiting for the Skins to lose so they can pick us apart and validate their bullshit. The only reason I watch the pregame shows anymore is to kill the anxious moments leading up to kick-off. You're right on as far as progress goes. Game 1, we score 9 points, Game 2, 14 points, and Game 3, 20 points. You can slice it anyway you want but that's improvement! |
Re: SI's Banks: "The Worst 3-0 Team Ever"
Also to be fair, even Terry Bradshaw has given us some props.
|
Re: SI's Banks: "The Worst 3-0 Team Ever"
Who cares! The Redskins are 3-0! That is the only thing that matters. Screw these guy's!
|
Re: SI's Banks: "The Worst 3-0 Team Ever"
I just think it's funny that prior to the game yesterday, it was our biggest test. And it was, Seattle is a legit playoff contender with a very good offense and a quality defense. We win the game and as soon as it's over the so called experts are reaching for every excuse in the book as to why the Skins won.
Is it that hard for the mediots to admit that just maybe, just maybe the Skins are an improved team?? Can they even acknowledge that this was a team that lost it's share of close affairs last year, and with an even average offense was a team that could have won 10 games? Is it that hard to imagine the Skins winning 8, 9 or even 10 this year?? Well I guess so if you're Dr. Z who predicted 4 wins the entire year, hey we're 3/4 of the way there! |
Re: SI's Banks: "The Worst 3-0 Team Ever"
Matty,
Did you also notice that on espn.com that the teaser was "Seattle's missed FG allows Redskins to win in OT" When the Eagles came back, it wasn't, "Chiefs collapse allows Eagles to come back" It was basically, "McNabb is God. Nothing is more courageous than playing with his condition." |

Good call doctor Z! |
Re: SI's Banks: "The Worst 3-0 Team Ever"
It should have read something like, "Redskins dodge bullet after dominating most of game to win in OT."
|
Re: SI's Banks: "The Worst 3-0 Team Ever"
Another thing, and this was on another thread, can't remember which one.....but next week against Denver is supposedly our biggest test of the season.
|
Re: SI's Banks: "The Worst 3-0 Team Ever"
...and Tampa barely, barley hung on to beat Detroit. But they are soooooooo good!! Bullsh**T!
the bucs really should have lost on that bs call on the Marcus Pollard td catch, but they've got one of the golden boys of the league as their Coach so the media is of course going to slurp all over them. after yesterday the team is #14 in the league in offensive production and 5th in total defense but like others have said, the media will find any way to say the team playing the skins lost the game instead of saying how the skins won the game. Winning a game by more than 10 would go a long way towards helping that bandwagon jumping though. All I know is even though they didn't score a whole bunch, the team has improved by 5 points from the first game, and now 6 points over the 2nd game speaks of pretty darn good improvement which is further showed by the skins having 4 or 5 drives with over 10 plays yesterday. |

I'm sure when we beat Denver there will be more of the same. I'm just wondering how long it will take before the experts say hey, you know these Redskins aren't half bad! |
Re: SI's Banks: "The Worst 3-0 Team Ever"
Can't WAIT to see the Power Polls this week.

Let's see, Dallas by one point, Chicago by two points, Seattle by three points....somewhere around Oakland in Week 11 we'll get that 10 point victory. |
