Time for Doom 'n' Gloom

For those of you who have known me for a while, I'm typically the eternal optimist. This time, I'm fully convinced our season is over. Not because we lost this game, mathematically we are very much in the hunt. We are out of the playoff race because our offensive line play is streaky, Gibbs does NOT go for the knockout punch and MAINYL because we have no pass rush.

Wrap your brains around this:

Did it not seem that Gibbs was trying to run the clock out in the THIRD QUARTER?! In addition to that, Collins had all year to throw. If there were positives from this game, I'd love to see them. All year we've been playing UP or playing DOWN to the teams that we are against. Giants and Raiders were supposed to be "gimmes" defensively. Well guess what, either Mark Brunell hasn't resurrected as much as we all thought or we just aren't that good.

It makes me sick to say this, but I think it's the latter.

I think you're pretty much spot on.

Pessimist Play Book...Ugly and upsetting to watch.

I don't know, what about those long passes down field that Brunell was throwing towards Jacobs? We can't get pressure on quarterbacks, and our offensive line is not consistant.

Yeah, I was irritated when they were calling offensive plays, like the Skins had a two touchdown lead, when they only were up by three.

And I swear, our front four would make Chad Hutchinson look like a pro bowler.

I agree it seemed like Gibbs was content to try and sit on his 3 point lead by diving Rock Cartwright into the line with over 14 minutes left in the 4th quarter.

tmc, i agree with you. i don't think we are out of the hunt, but we are fading fast. we make way too many mistakes to be a playoff team.

plain and simple we just arent that good.

True, our goalline D looked good, but when, oh WHEN, will we put a complete game together?

Re: Time for Doom 'n' Gloom

I don't know. But at least we showed some heart. I can ALMOST stand to lose when we fight the whole game, but that Giant's game... that made me sick.

I don't know, what gets me is that we are always a hair away from our season being completely different. But, it goes back to what I have said all season long: we turn the ball over 3 times or more, we lose. Period. We turned the ball over three times today. We lost. We turned the ball over 3 times last week. We lost. Until we learn to hold onto the ball, we will continue to lose ball games.

I also guarantee that the Skins will make a run in the end of the season that hinges upon one or two wins just to blow it in the end.

They make you feel like a girlfriend that cheats on you.

At this point, I just want us to have at least a .500 record. If we end up 6-10, boy will the Gibbs haters start coming out in full force.

I will go as far as to gaurantee a Victory over a much better Chargers team next week. Thats what the Redskins will do to you. Then they will be 6-5 and we will all be thinking playoffs again. Then they will beat Arizona, before shitting away the season again.

I was just telling Daseal that. I almost GUARANTEE that they'll win. When we play Arizona, Warner will be a "Pro Bowler" again. I'm seriously just sick of my heart being ripped out of my chest every week.

Re: Time for Doom 'n' Gloom

I think the reason that it is particularly harrowing to watch this season collapse like the last umptillion is that we are sending are first round pick to Denver next year. In year's past, when things started to go south and the playoffs began to look more and more remote, we could at least be buoyed by talk about maybe getting Kellen Winslow or Braylond Edwards. Not this year.

We needed to make it into the playoffs for that trade to begin to make sense, at least on a mathematical level (if Jason Campbell is the real deal it will make sense regardless).

Anyway, we really aren't that good. Oakland played a mediocre game and we still found a way, against all odds and reason, to lose. Just like last year. Just like Spurrier. Just like Norv.

I know exactly what you mean. I was pretty numb after todays game, I think mainly because last week was probaboly the most heartbreaking loss I've ever had. I ussually let this team run my life when they are still competitive, and they arent right now. Time to turn attention to other things. I'll still be watching every game down the stretch, but whatever. Thats really all I can say right now. Whatever.

That's it. Not play calling, turnovers have beaten us and they will continue as long as Portis, Cooley, Brunell and the rest of them with fumbleitess are killing the team.

It just seemed as if we came out dead in the second half and the Raiders just settled down.

We are what we are: a 5-5 team that probably will finish 8-8 and be heading home Jan. 1.
