Who Should We Have Drafted?
Im sitting here watching the lions game and it got me thinking about Mike Williams, which got me thinking about the draft.A lot of people on the board wanted us to draft Williams, hes had virtually no impact in Detroit, but are wr corp is very thin and he would be very helpful right now.Matt Jones leads the rookie wr class in receptions, which just blows my mind since he was a qb,strike 1,plus he's white!! strike 2,lol
Antrell Rolle has a few more tackle then Carlos Rogers, but their about even. 10 games into the season i think our biggest weakness is def line,if we had the draft to do over again and we still had the same picks in the draft,I would take Demarcus Ware and then maybe a cb or wr with the 25th pick instead of Campbell,so the question is are you happy with our draft picks? or who do you think we should have picked? |
Re: Who Should We Have Drafted?
Can I ask anyone who's watching this Lions game a question...how the HELL do you pull JOey Harrington? The kid played a good, solid first half in my opinion, with freaking Falcons up his ass the entire half and they pulled him??
I think this kid is going to be good once he gets a fresh start elsewhere. I cant belive they pulled him. |
Re: Who Should We Have Drafted?
Mariucci has a love affair with Jeff Garcia. I find it hypocritical for Mariucci to pull Harrington when every receiver has dropped the ball half of the game. At first I thought Harrington was putting a little too much zip on the ball but with Roy Williams falling down, Charles Rodgers lost, and Mike Williams having not a clue what he's doing I'm convinced that Mariucci won't be in Detroit too much longer either.

i would be PISSED if i was harrington, lets hope this guy

Re: Who Should We Have Drafted?
I am not going to say that we should or should not have drafted. At this point, it is way to early to evaluate Carlos Roders. Plus, it's somewhat unfair to say that we should have drafted a wideout because we are now thin at wideout; who could guess we'd lose our #2 and #3 wideouts?
As for the Lions game, I pray the Lions pull out a big upset because I don't want to battle the Falcons for a wildcard spot. |
Re: Who Should We Have Drafted?
We should have drafted DeMarcus Ware
We should have drafted DeMarcus Ware
You're kidding me right? What the hell has he done? And didn't he get abused by our tackles? |
Re: Who Should We Have Drafted?
No, I'm not kidding, he has a lot more potential than Carlos Rogers or Mike Williams. I would take him or Merriman.
|
Re: Who Should We Have Drafted?
I cant belive were having this discussion after a half a season. ESPECIALLY the way our secondary has been burned this year.
|
Re: Who Should We Have Drafted?
i still think bmw will be a great receiver... he's just raw for the pro game right now.
having said that, hindsight says we needed a d-lineman more than anything. merriman looks unreal, but the 8th spot was too high for him at the draft. |

its just a discussion, but i dont see your point, rogers is part of our secondary that keeps getting burned,so are you saying that wasnt a good pick? i dont think it would matter if we had 4 darrell greens back there, with the amount of time opposing qbs have had to pass against us it doesnt matter whos covering, right now we would make heath shuler and desmond howard look allpro, and that starts upfront, you get pressure on the qb and you can make walt harris look like a probowler, thats why i would pick Demarcus Ware This thread wasnt started to point fingers or blame anybody, its just suppossed to be a friendly discussion on who you think we should have drafted if we had it to do over again |

For my money, our pass defense has lost us at least 1 if not more games this year. I just feel like everyone is lobbying for us to have drafted a different position, when I think we probaboly made the right call THIS YEAR in getting a corner. I do agree though, that our defensive ends should have been upgraded a long long time ago. |
Re: Who Should We Have Drafted?
I still would have liked getting Chris Canty when we had the oppurtunity near the end of Day 1 of the draft.
|
Re: Who Should We Have Drafted?
I think we should have taken at least one defensive lineman. Chris Canty was a good possibility for us, but we selected a running back 4 picks ahead of him.
Carlos Rogers had to be taken where he was. It's still very early, he hasn't had enough time to make an impact, and we needed the heir apparent to Fred Smoot. The pick we may regret is Jason Campbell. I'm not predicting a bust or anything, but there could have been other players taken who would have provided more of an immediate impact at a position many of us knew was a weak spot: the D-line. |

That's assuming he's going to be a good QB. |

We didn't have a late first day pick. Remember, we only had two firsts, one fourth, one fifth, one sixth, and one seventh. We could have picked him with our 4th pick, but we used that on Manuel White. As some of you may recall, White got injured and placed on IR. What is even more upsetting about that pick is he saw little to no playing time in the preseason. While that isn't a good sign, it's a little early to say it was a bad pick. |

Antrell Rolle has a few more tackle then Carlos Rogers, but their about even.
Antrel Rolle tore up his knee before week 4 and he still has more tackles than rogers. Its not fair to say we shouldve drafted someone else because there is more to it than that. we should've kept smoot and drafted a Dlinemen or Merrimen. but with smooty gone we needed a CB. could you imagine jimoh starting in place of harris the last couple of weeks? antrel rolle is probably the best corner for our system, but he was gone when we drafted. i dont think we shouldve drafted a WR. but we should've got someone better than patten. he never has done anything in his career and we expected a great player. he was a role player on a great team. i have to ask again, not only to show my favorite icon but to get my point across. :bdh::bdh::bdh::bdh::bdh::bdh::bdh::bdh::bdh::bdh::bdh: why did we waste a pick on nemo? outside of rock's on fumble, he has played well in a limited role on offence and great on special teams. waste of a pick and a waste of a roster spot. |

I wouldn't call Nemo a wasted pick. He was a 7th round choice. You won't find too many 7th round choices that are going to make a huge impact their first year |

Nemo was a great pick IMO. he's just a rookie, but i like the gibbs style runner in him. |
Re: Who Should We Have Drafted?
i think the reason we took rogers over rolle was personality to fit into gibbs core system
|
Re: Who Should We Have Drafted?
we should have drafted mike williams @ 9, and heath miller @ 25
|
Re: Who Should We Have Drafted?
Hey JAMF, does your name stand for "jive ass mother f--ker"?
|
Re: Who Should We Have Drafted?
Rogers still could be good, give him time. But if he keeps looking as slow as he has been... then yeah, we made a bad pick there. Im surprised we didnt even draft one d-line men, not even in the late rounds.

Re: Who Should We Have Drafted?
what exactly would the skins do with h miller?another te isnt helping on defense and cooley could be all pro

I think Rogers will be alright ..

Re: Who Should We Have Drafted?
You're kidding me right? What the hell has he done? And didn't he get abused by our tackles?
DeMarcus Ware would lead the Redskins in sacks if he was on the team and he's an OLB. I would have put him at end, but he's not having a bad season at OLB. |
Re: Who Should We Have Drafted?
what exactly would the skins do with h miller?another te isnt helping on defense and cooley could be all pro
I'm not saying we should have drafted Miller, but he would help our offense. First, Miller was scouted as a pretty good blocker. Although I haven't seen him, I bet he's better than Royal. Second, Miller is a pretty good receiver and he'd be on the field with Cooley. Cooley is the H-back, not a tight end (although he sometimes lines up on the line). |
Re: Who Should We Have Drafted?
We need a young, taleneted pass rusher on our D-Line. Thatt would have been huge for us.

Also, Rolle wasn't available when we picked Rogers. |

Re: Who Should We Have Drafted?
Our defense would be fine if we would have kept Ron Warner and Antonio Pierce. Blache favors big, strong, immobile DEs though to stop the run. Teams figured that out and now pass all over us.
|
Re: Who Should We Have Drafted?
with hindsight, merriman @9, h miller @25 (or even betterm trade down and grab darrent williams in the 2nd (16-20) and another pick in the third), chris canty @120, mccune @154 (potential), nemo @222 (potential)...
its much easier to pick them now though. |

Actually, we traded last year's 3rd and 4th rounders plus next year's 1st rounder. Our 2nd round pick went to New Orleans for the 3rd rounder we got in 2003 to draft Chris Cooley (we didn't have the 3rd rounder in 2003 because we traded it for Mark Brunell). I doubt we would have been able to draft a starting DE with a 3rd or 4th rounder. At best, we would have gotten a good situational pass-rusher. Plus, who knows, maybe Campbell will turn out to be a stud. It's very early to be judging the wisdom of trading all those picks for Campbell. We haven't even seen him play a single down in the regular season. |
