Brunell??

[font=Times New Roman][size=2]I was so HAPPY the skins finally got back on track this past sunday. Like i said before i was unable to get the video of the game cause my friends comp broke and he couldnt tape it for me so i had to watch on the NFL.com website. (Its not to easy to catch skins games in France)

I was really nervous in the first half when judging purely by the stats it looked like brunell was having a poor game. During half time of the game i got on the warpath and made a post on the game thread asking what the problem was with Brunells play...like whether the offensive line wasnt playing well, the receivers were dropping passes, or if it was really brunell playing poorly.

Im still not sure which is the case, so if some of you could provide your thoughts about Brunells performance on sunday id appreciate it.

I guess i just have this nervous feeling like he is starting to slip a little from how he was playing earlier in the year. I really hope thats not the case. Cause going into these last few games i feel like we are gonna be facing some teams capable of putting up a lot of points (cardinals and giants) and some pretty good defenses (giants recently, cowboys, and eagles). Therefore since we prolly wont be able to rush for 200+ yards per week, we prolly are gonna need Brunell to actually make some plays...and not just avoid turnovers.

So in short, please discuss your thoughts on Brunells performance this past sunday.

And suggest what we are gonna need to get out of him going forward to have a good chance at winning our remaining games.

Re: Brunell??

There's not a whole lot to complain or rave about his performance on Sunday. The theme of the day was to run the ball, and run it some more. He was strictly a game manager, but he was efficient as indicated by the 104.5 rating. Most of his 14 completions were dumps to Royal (4-40) and Cooley (5-58) and they turned some of those catches into nice gains.

I think Brunell will be good to go! Plain and simple.

Re: Brunell??

I think Brunell's apparent slip on the stat sheet is primarily due to the fact that defenses have figured out that we don't have much of a receiving threat opposite Santana Moss, so if you double cover Santana Moss you're going to do a pretty good job against our passing game.

Brunell is a very smart QB, and when nothing is there he throws the ball away. He's finding less and less to throw to these days, so he's throwing it away a lot more. That's probably why we're seeing a dip in his completion percentage and yardage. But the key thing is he's still not throwing picks. 16 TD passes, 5 INTs.

If he can just control the fumbles, I won't have a single complaint about our QB.

Re: Brunell??

This brings up a good point. Brunell and the offense are going to have to throw the ball to set up the run against better defenses. Against the cowboys and giants, especially. Right now, i'm positive about the future, but we are average as our record states. For the team to become a playoff team, an above average team, we are going to have to be able to balance the run and pass a little better. Hopefully we start this weekend.

Agreed, running on the Giants and Cowboys is going to be a lot tougher than running on the Rams or Cardinals. Hopefully Gibbs & company are coming up with some ways to threaten the defense.

The only way to loosen up coverage on Santana Moss is to have a decent 2nd receiver. Taylor Jacobs HAS to step up in a major way. We can probably get by with a marginal game from him against the Cardinals, but we're going to need him next week against the Cowboys. A healthy James Thrash wouldn't hurt either.

Re: Brunell??

The key matchup in this game is Samuels against Berry, Samuels probably get's burned most of the game, and gets Brunell blindsided a few times and probably coughs up the ball at least once.

Re: Brunell??

The only thing about that is since Brunell is a lefty, Samuels protects his front side, not his blindside.

Re: Brunell??

Hahahaha, here's your sign!

I thought Brunell's performance was just okay. Nothing great. I think he managed the game as good as any top rate quarterback in the league, but I think he's going to have to have not only solid performances going down the stretch, but great performances. Obviously not having Thrash or Patten has affected the passing game some. Can't look for Moss on every play.

Re: Brunell??

brunell did what is ask of todays qbacks, manage the game.play winning football with little or no mistakes.he took a potential diaster, with the fumble at the goal line, and kept the game winnable for the skins.as far as berry,i would like to see the skins go back to rolling pocket.we used it early in the season, with some sucess.and brunell is fairly accurate while on the move

I wasen't around the site sooner, I have been busy hunting, and sleeping about 3 hrs a night, so sorry, I didn't see the game until last night.

But I am very concerned about that matchup, that matchup alone could lose us the game, Samuels gets dominated by fast DE's.

It wasen't a knock on Brunell, just Samuels.

Re: Brunell??

I was really impressed with Brunell shuffling that ball out of bounds once it hit the end zone. It was just miscommunication between Mark & Portis, but as much as I knocked him after last year, that showed the presence of mind a true veteran has to have. In that same situation, as much as I like Ramsey, I shudder to think what his reaction would have been.

You hunt? What kind of animals? Do you use a rifle or do you just talk them to death?

"Listen Mr. Bear, I've always said you're going to die. Been saying it from day one. And I'll keep saying it until you actually die. So what's it gonna be?"

Not only are you negative, but you're also not paying attention to the league. Bertrand Berry is on IR.

If you can't handle my reply's than I would advise you not to take shots at me, unfortuantly you have a tough time with people who actually know the game, I mean really do you actually think your an individual who can add real insight to the breakdown of a game? Your better off doing exactly what you do take shots at what others are saying, you are quite the moderator.

So hear it is I know you love to fall back on the I know everything argument to make yourself feel more important because you can't really converse with me with actual substance, unfortuantly when you continually take shots as you do, I have to back myself up, and point out what I have said to back it up, you label me as a no it all, I am not a no it all, I just don't back down when I am right just because your crying about it. There are individuals on this site who think for themselves, and those who just put on the burgandy and gold glasses and agree with everything Gibbs say's and does, guess which one you are?

"Hello Mr. Gibbs, this is Tafkas, what should I be thinking this week?"

As far as the bear is concerned, I did have a nice conversation with him, I said Mr. bear do you follow football? He said yes, he's a bear's fan, I then mentioned your name as a football expert, he then proceeded to laugh himself to death, I will send you the rug.

Forget about it Schneed10......we don't have the insight or knowledge that he claims to have.

You don't take a joke very well it seems. Anyhow, I could get in a pissing match with you but that wouldn't be very "moderator-esque" of me. Plus, what's the point? Have your fun at my expense. Fine by me.

You are right though, that Samuels vs. Berry matchup will be key this weekend. Right up there with this weekend's other key matchups -Marvcus Patton vs. Stump Mitchell, Roy Green vs. AJ Johnson, Neil Lomax vs. Dexter Manley...really though, if Samuels can't stop Bertrand "Street Clothes" Barry this weekend then we've got problems

Re: Brunell??

brunell wasn't impressive, but he was solid... the real reason is the run game was just so good vs a terrible defense that we didn't need to pass that much.

SUNRA 12-07-2005 09:26 PM

Re: Brunell??

Brunell is efficient. Almost three times the amount of TDs to INTs is what we needed from a QB. Taylor Jacobs and Jimmy Farris have to make a difference immediately. Brunell has my respect. He gave me a win over the most hated team in the NFL in their backyard. Now I will nominate him as the greatest Redskins QB of the last ten seasons after he beats Dallas, New York and Philly.

Kevikazi 12-08-2005 03:49 AM

Re: Brunell??

I just don't understand Taylor Jacobs. All I've been hearing is how great he looked in training camp, and I think Champ Bailey once said that he was one of the hardest WR to cover.......so, why is he stinking it up NOW knowing very well that this may be his last shot as a Redskin??? I think getting a bonafide 2nd WR to compliment S Moss should be our priority during off-season (along with pass rushing DE).

NFLeurope 12-08-2005 06:24 AM

Re: Brunell??

I've said this before...but ill reiterate...i feel like the offensive position that would help us the most is getting a beastly tight end. I think that would do wonders for opening things up for our receivers. If we played with cooley and the beast (and i continue to hold out false hope that this beast will go by the name of Vernon Davis) then i think our receivers would look like allpros...and once we got the LONG TERM QB situation figured out...i dont see any reason why this offense couldnt be among the best in the league.

So its not like i wouldnt want another good 2nd receiver...its just i feel that if we had to add one impact player on offense, a tight end to pair with cooley would do the most to improve our offense for the long haul...and even next year.

Finally, I am willing to give Taylor Jacobs some more time by the way. He was a second round pick (we dont get too many of those...which makes him real rare)...and he hasn't gotten too much playing time due to injuries. Hopefully now that he is playing he will get up to speed...and start showing off the skills that Gregg Williams and the guys who have to go against him in practice every day have been seeing. I think it is just a matter of playing time for him to get his confidence up..before he becomes really good.
