Skins fans should hope Ramsey starts and does well for the offseason
First off let me say that I was away over the holiday weekend and Ive spent over an hour now trying to catch up on yet another great and, for me, unexpected beat down victory! I for one never thought the Skins could run the table, and I know they haven't yet, but their play over the past 4 weeks has surprised the hell out of me so God Bless you Joe Gibbs! I still think we need a GM, but no one can criticize your second season here. For me, the victories over the Cowboys made the entire season worthwhile, even if we don't make the playoffs, this year has brought back some pride to the burgundy and gold, so again thank you Joe.
NOW, here's the thing, Brunnell is hurt, he may play but he's hurt and Im worried. We all remember how horrible Brunnell was last year when he had a bad hamstring, if his legs are hurt he won't have the zip on his balls and he won't be accurate, and honestly, an inaccurate weak throwing Brunnell will get us buried. Sooooo, I say play Ramsey. If Ramsey plays well we might actually get a 3rd rounder for him in the offseason. A good outing for Ramsey helps this team IMMENSELY in the offseason. On the other hand, if Brunnell starts and its obvious that he reverts to last year's form then its going to be 8 men in the box to stop Portis, again, just like last year. |
Re: Skins fans should hope Ramsey starts and does well for the offseason
He's played with injuries all year, calf, hand, etc.
His knee isn't even that bad, I'm sure he'll be fine if he plays. If you're waiting for Brunell of last year to show up, keep waiting cause it ain't gonna happen. |
Re: Skins fans should hope Ramsey starts and does well for the offseason
i think we can beat the eagles with ramsey starting. even if brunell is healthy i think gibbs should sit him for a week to get all rested up for our championship run.;)

But wasn't the hand injury on his non-throwing hand? The calf injury seemed really minor too, not like a knee injury. It just seems like his mobility and his ability to step into his throws may be limited, but I hope not. |
Re: Skins fans should hope Ramsey starts and does well for the offseason
Doesn't matter who starts. Our D will EAT philly alive!!!! As far as Ramsey playing well....been there done that.... i for 1 don't want our playoff hopes riding on a QB that has 3.5 quarters of experience this yr!!!!!!! Forget about what we MAY get 4 him. I think he is gone and unless he takes us through playoffs we wont get much 4 him.

I think you have lost track of why the game is played. It is not for the offseason and draft picks. The true goal is to get to the playoffs and win the super bowl. You play your best players, the one's that have gotten you there. Not some guy on the bench because you want to get a better draft pick for him in the offseason. I am not sure why Ramsey fans continue to bring up last year like that represents Brunells entire career. Here we are at 9-6 and one victory away from the playoffs and some are still putting down Brunnell. I guess Ramsey's incredible track record and winning career in college and the NFL makes him the obvious better choice. |

the skins will start ramsey if brunell's leg is a compound fracture break ..other -wise brunell will be the Q B to take us to the playoffs:)

Throughout his career Brunell has played through such injuries, and we thought he was done because of age and injury, but we were all proved wrong this year. Playoffs are number one right now, not the offseason. And if Ramsey starts, I know Coach Gibbs will run much more, than if Brunell starts, simply because Ramsey has not performed well under pressure, or passing in general. Yea he did good last game, but he passed less 10 times. In 4 quarters of game, he will need to take many more attempts. We still do not know how Ramsey will play in a full game, and why go away from a guy that has been pulling it out with injury? If Ramsey starts, then coach will run more, to prevent potential mistakes. Then the Eagles will put 8 in the box, which will make running much harder. Then Ramsey will be forced to pass. Do I have faith in Ramsey, yes; but I would not go away from Brunell if he well enough to play, simply because of what he has done. The throwaways, the extra steps, the experience that comes with Brunell, is what even has us in this position right now. |

You can pretty much count on Brunell being back next year, whether we collectively like that or not. Unless he get's seriously injured somewhere between now and training camp or Jason Campbell transforms into a starting QB overnight, I would bet on Mark Brunell being the starting QB for '06. As far as Ramsey goes, while I'm pretty sure the Redskins may trade him, it's not a given. If Joe Gibbs had his druthers (sp), I think he would even bring Patrick back next year to back up Brunell and Campbell as third. That's in a perfect world, of course. Given the currenet QB situation around the league, I would have to think we could get at least a second round pick for Ramsey. |

Why get rid of Brunell? He's proven that he can still play. Not to mention that he has helped us in getting to this point of making the playoffs. You always need a good veteran qb on your team whether he starts or not. I'd rather assume keep both guys if I could - at least for one more year. However, getting rid of Brunell just because he is in his mid thirties would be a dumb move. Heck, John Elway didn't win his two Super Bowls until he was in his late 30's. |
Re: Skins fans should hope Ramsey starts and does well for the offseason
The writing is on the wall guys, unless the market suddenly dries up for Ramsey he's headed elsewhere this offseason. Brunell will be back as the starter and Campbell will continue to be groomed for the not so distant future.
|
Re: Skins fans should hope Ramsey starts and does well for the offseason
Brunell will be fine this week. I would like to think our formula this week, will be to run it as much as possible and that will keep Brunell healthy. He should only go back to pass when neccessary or if it is obvious we have a deep shot down the field with Moss. I think we can beat the Eagles easily if we get up on them early. Maybe Ramsey comes in a little toward the end in some mop up duty.

Brunnell is the better QB IF he's healthy, and that's a big IF. We have seen what happens to Brunnell when his legs are injured, he can't step into his throws and Gibbs won't yank him. If Brunnell takes the field and his balls fall 3 feet in front of the receivers like last year, Gibbs better go to Ramsey and quick. If he does go to Ramsey, then it only benefits everyone if Ramsey plays well. If Ramsey plays well in a game or two it drastically increases his value. There is no way we get a 2nd rounder for him at this point unless he shows something. Right now, we would probably get a 5th rounder for the guy. |
Big game for Ramsey?
If Brunell can't go, how big a game is this for Patrick? He needs to show he's not just bench fodder? For his own self-esteem, he needs a good "clean" win? For potential future team oppurtunities elsewhere (if that happens) he needs some good "pressure game" tape? HUGE!

Re: Big game for Ramsey?
Personally I hope Brunell plays, but if Ramsey plays he should treat as an audition for another team next season. If he plays well, it helps us because his trade value goes up.
But this would probably be Ramsey's biggest game of his career. If he can help us win...his confidence goes way up. |

That is exactly right. Gibbs and staff are not morons, they will make the right call on game day. I will lose my voice cheering for whoever plays. Firstdown, You bring up a good second point: I was looking at the highlights of the Giants game and I noticed the throw from Ramsey to Moss on the 75yd TD, the throw actually only traveled 15-20 yards in the air before Moss caught it. Then the defender slipped and Moss sprinted 55 yards on his own. So Ramsey really only threw 5 of 7 for 54 yards. |

Well, that injury last year was a hammy, far more serious and time consuming injury than what he sustained this past weekend. I'm confident that Mark Brunell will be starting this weekend. I don't believe you put in Patrick Ramsey for the sake of seeing if we can push his value up for the offseason. I believe you stick with Brunell to try and win a playoff spot. If we were 6-9 at this point, yeah I'd play Patrick Ramsey. |

Re: Skins fans should hope Ramsey starts and does well for the offseason (merged)
Brunell will start unless he cannot walk. He wants to win and he is a fierce competitor. Also, this may be his last chance to go to the playoffs.
|
Re: Skins fans should hope Ramsey starts and does well for the offseason (merged)
I didnt read all of the posts because of limited time, but I think the point of the original post was not anti-brunell, but rather pro-brunell. I am a ramsey fan, but a brunell fan as well (at least this year lol) and I would hate like hell for him to get hurt going into the post season. I'm not sure if I could make the decision, and I know none of you are in a position to, but I may rest brunell, because I know that kearse, and the rest of the eagles D will probably be gunning for his legs to take him out... and that limits our options going into the post season (if we make it).
I'm a card player, and I belive what is called "momentum" has alot to do with having more options than your opponent. When you limit options you force someone to play a hand, and if you make a decision to hold a card back you control how your opponent plays, and then you have the ace up your sleeve. However if brunell is taken away, we're forced into a situation that could be bad for us in the long run, because we lose a mobile QB, then any team playing us can confidently stack the box and blitz both for running and pass russhing, because we have limited options on how to counter that. |

not true what mobile QB has won a a superbowl name even 1? look at brady .....i think u still lose abit with that mobilty....Ramsey can make throws that brunell simply cant make.... in fact his brain wont even let him consider them.... and for ramsey its a flip of the wrist... Name 1 pass over the middle longer than a slant that u have seen him throw in the last 5 weeks.... as high as that TD Ramsey threw was brunell could not have made it... i bet ya moss and the boys want Ramsey throwing that ball to him.... And as good as the offensive line is playing Ramsey would pick them apart .his release looked very crisp sunday.... and picking up on 3rd and 4th receivers...brunell might make 1 good run a game and a flip pass or 2 ..but how many open guys does he miss down field?????? cause he cant make a throw? maybe thats why he throws it away so much.. and Ramsey isnt exactly Lane...

I'm not going to waste a lot of time trying to understand the cheerleading for Ramsey after an overthrown pass that Santana was able to pull down and finish with a TD. I think it is strange that many Redskins fans are more concerned with trivializing the QB situation rather than deal with the Eagles and our chances of sweeping another NFC rival. Don't be so quick to replace a QB who lead this team to an immpressive ass whipping of Dallas. Only Brunell could have pulled that off and he did. Just wait and see how fare Brunell can take us. |

But look if Mark does play i more than hope he has an All WORLD DAY!!!! I just personally think Ramsey is a better QB...but 1st of all I want the Skins to beat the eagles sweep.... we have nothing but eagles fans and dallas fans at work ..(I live in PA) i already have my broom redy right by the door.... and i am gonna be the biggest asshole to those fans like they were to me for so many years...

Agreed! The problem is whoever Gibbs deciedes to play the other QB is a waste, if Ramsey comes out and light's the world on fire it will be because he watched Brunell all season, not that he had the ability all along. I also have to laugh at everyone hoping he really shines on sunday so we can trade him in the offseason, I don't get it? So if the guy proves he's a #1 QB we should trade him? Brunell will be another year older, which puts us 1 hit away from Campbell, whom we all know Gibbs doesn't like young QB's, when we have Ramsey at a very reasonable price for next season, I hope he doesn't go anywhere, but he may really force Gibbs hand, and I could see that happening after the season is over. I really don't know after what happened in the first game that theres a promise that Gibbs could make to keep Ramsey on board. Unfortunatly! Personally I think when it's all said and done we will be in a similar situation to the chargers, Ramsey will win the job, and we will be shopping Campbell. But how do you know he's making better decisions .when he havent even played.... and the little bit he did play his arm looked strong .. and quick.....maybe leading the nfl in throwing the ball away and fumbling is a better decision....???? or maybe that wonderfully thrown TD last sat the the Giants Linebacker was a great decision.....[/QUOTE] Or maybe the scramble for a first down, or the last minute shovel pass to Robert Royal for a first down, or the playaction pass to Moss for a TD, or the screen pass to Moss for a TD, etc......You can harp all you want, but would've could've should've doesn't win you games. I'm not putting one player above the team like you're obviously doing. If Ramsey comes in and plays I'll root for him. I'm a Redskins fan first. Period. I root for this team....I'm not going to sit here and pick a player apart...ESPECIALLY since we're winning and having a great shot a making the playoffs and even winning the division. |

__________________ Braves On The WarPath!!! |

If you think Ramsey is the better quarterback (although right now I've seen nothing to suggest such...) then that's your opinion. But, why can't you support Brunell as the current starter instead of picking him apart? What is it about Mark Brunell that you dislike? |
