Offensive Coordinator

I think that the Redskins would be a better offensive football team if we had an offensive coordinator to help Gibbs come back to being a genius at calling offensive plays. We desperately need an OC if we ever want to compete for a championship in the near future.

Re: Offensive Coordinator

I think when we acquire several playmakers on the off-season at the WR, and TE position it will allow Coach Gibbs to open his masterpiece plays up. The more confident he is in is players the more creative trick plays we will see. One good #2 Wideout who can block as well as catch with exceptional speed will take the attention off of Santana Moss.

Remember John Gruden called Gibbs as Offensive Innovator and he was referring to his plays that revolutionized the game.

Re: Offensive Coordinator

Your offense is as good as your players are...Gibbs is doing fine with the play calling. Lets not also forget that he instituted the shotgun formation this off-season. We all play Madden but NFL play calling is a different ball game. No coach with a comfortable lead will be reckless with the ball and throw like crazy.

Exactly, I mean the offense can't be doing that bad if Mark Brunell threw for the most TDs ever in his career, Santana Moss set a single-season franchise receiving yards record, Clinton Portis set one for rushing, and Cooley set a record for most receptions by a TE.

"The Gibbs' offense" is also being felt in Carolina with OC Dan Henning (former Redskin coach with Gibbs) and in Pittsburgh with OC and Assistant Head Coach Ken Whisenhunt and Russ Grimm (former players with Gibbs). Carolina and Pitt, like the Skins, are three of only eight teams still standing.

Anyone else listen to "skinny on the skins" through iTunes? I completely agree with Rusty on Joe Gibbs' play calling.

Re: Offensive Coordinator

The offensive made HUGE strides this year.

They finished #11 overall, produced a WR that was 2nd in the NFL with 1483 yards and a RB who was 4th in the NFL in rushing with 1516 yards, both team records.

I think the offense is fine.

Yeah except Gibbs isn't the primary playcaller

Re: Offensive Coordinator

The Redskins offensive braintrust, which consists of Joe Gibbs, Joe Bugel, Don Breaux, Jack Burns, Bill Musgrave, and Earnest Byner has by my rough estimation 160 years of combined coaching experience. I can't imagine who else they could hire that would have anything to add. They have enough cooks, they need to buy some better groceries.

Gibbs doesn't need another offensive coordinator. Come on man...the O had one bad game against the #1 defense in the league.

Re: Offensive Coordinator

Im certainly for an offensive playcaller other than Gibbs.

The problem with our offense is you NEVER know what to expect. One day they're putting up 35 on the Cowboys, the next day they're breaking history for fewest yards in a playoff game. Granted there's a difference between the two teams, it's not like Tampa happened to be the '85 Bears.

It seems that if our offense starts out of sync, they never find a way to get it back in sync. I still don't trust Mark Brunell and I feel the ball needs to be spread around a bit more. I like what we started doing with Portis late in the year.

I realize Moss has had a career year, and I hope we can expect this from him every year. Unfortunately, I'm not sold we'll have that every year. His past history indicates a bit otherwise. Hopefully I'm wrong here but it takes at least two years of playing at a high level to convince me said problems are gone.

Dmek -- Id love to go back and count how many times we've done that during Gibbs reign and NOT gotten the W.

Good post, that is exactly what I was thinking. Our offensive is good, but is very flakey. The last two games it has hit a low, because of Brunell being injuried or whatever other reason. Something is still not there, and we all could feel that the last two games. And because the offense was not working that well, Gibbs went ultra-conservative, atleast in my opinion. I mean, if you look at the Cowboys game, we really didn't stop firing till the gun, a total opposite stragety when compared to the Tampa game.

By the way, no Martz, a little bit too fruity for me.

Re: Offensive Coordinator

I believe the problem we are running into right now is the Eagles showed teams how to attack on defense, and that's to take away Moss, and Cooley, and don't worry about anyone else, because Brunell will first look Moss, if he's not there he goes right to Cooley, then throws it away. Brunell needs to get our other WR's involved, and involved early. I believe he has to make the defense account for either Jacobs, or Thrash, that should thin out the coverage some on either Moss, or Cooley.

Re: Offensive Coordinator

I think Sunra has the plan. On offense, pick up a couple of more weapons of the reciever, etc nature, and call it good! While I would like to "thrash" the hell out of all opponents like 91', you call the game according to what you have. It's about winning, WE ARE. Who can argue with the results? If Gibbs wants a coordinator, so be it!
