Taylor should take deal
If read recently that Sean Taylor has been offered a plea deal to a felony charge and no jail time. If that's the case, he needs to take it. His attorney's number 1 goal should be to keep his client out of jail, if that means pleading to a felony, so be it.

Re: Taylor should take deal
Wrong. Here's why.... If they didnt accept the plea, then they are absolutely 100% percent confident they are ready to take on the case. If they didnt have a case then they would have taken the plea deal. Bruise Bros. will be in business for 2006 season.

Re: Taylor should take deal
Wrong. Here's why, you absolutely cannot predict what a jury will do, no way, no how. He may have a strong case, but as the old saying goes, a bird in the hand is worth 2 in the bush.

Re: Taylor should take deal
Simple math:
3 x Felony = 3 strike rule 3 Strike rule = Life sentence Life sentence > Redskins |
Re: Taylor should take deal
I agree that you can't predict what a jury will do, but why put a felony on your record? I'm pretty confident that he won't be going to jail.

The question is, why not put a felony on his record? What does the kid lose? He's a millionaire, so what if he can't vote or own a gun, hell, he'd be better off not owning a gun with his temperment. If he was an average joe, then maybe, but what is the downside to accepting the plea? |
Re: Taylor should take deal
Dont forget that any felony plea still gets him suspended by the NFL for 4 games.

Why cop to something you didn't do?

It depends on how you look at it. Maybe he knows there's no way he will get convicted. I'm not really sure, but I think it's a stand that shows maybe he was taught not to admit to something you didn't do. I'm not sure exactly why he wouldn't, but if he doesn't want to admit to having committed a felony, I respect him for that. I just hope it works out. |
Re: Taylor should take deal
A friend of mine once faced a similar predicament. Accept a plea and get like 6 months in jail plus one year probation or something like that. There were so many mistakes by the prosecution that he was convinced by his lawyer not to accept the plea that he would be fine.
He was wrong. He's serving 8 years now with 7 years probation. Of course, the difference is you can dispute a lot of the things that my friend did. Sean Taylor-I know nothing about what really happened. |

I trust ST's lawyers know what they're doing.
Did we really need another ST thread?? |
Re: Taylor should take deal
I can tell you that innocent people plead guilty to things all the time. The State will typically overcharge a Defendant. For example, lets say a little kid accuses you of abuse over a period of time, say 3 years. The State comes in and charges you with 15 felony counts, each carrying a 1-10 sentence. If a plea offer comes to you for 1 count and probation, are you going to take it or roll the dice with a jury?

What do you mean with his temperment he shouldn't be owning a gun. I'm curious, what is Sean's temperment? As far as a convicted felon not being able to vote, I think it really depends on the state. |
Re: Taylor should take deal
My question for one of the lawyers or law students on the board is if Taylor was to plea to a felony assault wouldn't that set him up nicely to be sued for many dollars in a Civil court?
