What are we doin with our D-Backs?
Who starts? Who is goin?
I heard from a guy that Springs may be moving to safety. Not to sure about the source so if anyone knows something let me know. We definately have an abundance. |
Re: What are we doin with our D-Backs?
Well, Randy Johnson returned to the D-Backs this season. He had back surgery and should have a good, healthy year in the NL.
OHHHHHHHH... I don't know officially, I doubt anyone other than the coaching staff does, but here's what I would do: Rogers and Smoot SHOULD be starting at CB. Taylor and Springs at Safety. Arch would be the Nickelback and he'd blitz a lot when he's in. |
Re: What are we doin with our D-Backs?
if the skins gey dre bly then i would think they would get rid of springs, in that case the def.backs would be
1-bly (covering the teams #1 wr) 2-rogers (covering teams #2 wr) 3-smoot (covering teams #3 wr) 4&5-taylor & preiluo(sp) safety *rogers and smoot could swap positions* (could be determined in camp) |
Re: What are we doin with our D-Backs?
We need to get a FS with great range, tackling skills, and play-making ability to help aid our secondary. keep springs at corner.
Draft Eric Weddle from Utah!! |

Re: What are we doin with our D-Backs?
we dont have bly just yet, so Smoot would be starting in theory.

even if we do not get bly and we keep springs, i'm not convinced smoot would start over rogers. i think they would battle it out in camp. neither one of those guys make me overly worried but neither one makes me overly happy either. |
Re: What are we doin with our D-Backs?
Springs would make a great safety across from Sean Taylor.
Two years back when we had Ryan Clark starting, our defense excelled against the pass. Clark wasn't a very big safety at 5'11" and only 205 lbs. but he was better at coverage than anything we got out of Archuleta, Vincent, and Fox last year. But if you recall, Clark was pretty bad against the run, yet we still had a superior run defense as well. With his cover skills, Gregg Williams was more comfort leaving more guys in the pocket to stuff the run. That said, Carlos would really have to step it up to be a #1 corner, and smoot would have to get back to his old self. I think there is still the possibility that Bly could come over. Whether archuleta is involved in that trade or not (Lynch is getting old...) I doubt it, but we gotta move on from him. |

They aren't going to pay him 7 million to be a strong safety. It would make more sense to move Rogers or Smoot to SS before Springs at this point. Springs last year here is going to be on the island. |
Re: What are we doin with our D-Backs?
i love the eric weddle comment....i hear you boss, that guy is a freaking stud and can be had in the second or third round....now we just need to get those picks. i personally think laron laundry at 6 or 8 if we trade with the texans would be an unreal pick, but if we go dline then i take weddle in the second round. my starting line up is smoot and springs with rogers/draft bust as the nickel and then go with taylor and battle it out in camp for the opposite side saftey.

Re: What are we doin with our D-Backs?
#1 CB: Springs
#2 CB: Rogers #3 CB: Smoot FS: Taylor SS: Prioleau |
Re: What are we doin with our D-Backs?
#1 CB: Springs
#2 CB: Rogers #3 CB: Smoot FS: Taylor SS: Prioleau
Since we do not have Bly, and I am thinking we won't, I think it will be Smoot #1, Springs #2, and Rogers #3. If anyone was watching last year, they would have noticed that Rogers does not have the stuff to be a #1 or a #2. Smoot is twice as good as Rogers. Springs has great talent, but is getting old. He can't be a #1 anymore. The 3 combined make a great trio though. I do fully beleive that Springs would make a great safety assuming we find a viable CB to take his place, but that's a big if. We don't need a run stopper out of that spot, we need a cover guy. We have new blood in Fletcher to help sure up the LB's and help stop the run. What would help us stop the run even better is a DE. The fact that anyone here thinks we need anything out of the draft (minus maybe a guard) other than a DE is smoking crack. We need a pass rusher to help keep the offenses honest and will help our run stoppers. If we get Bly, you'll find me over in the corner all giddy. Imagine Bly, Smoot, Rogers and Springs (safety or not) then getting one of those top notch DE's in the draft. I would guarantee we would get back to a top 10 defense. I can see our offense hitting top 10 as well, and if both are top ten, well ladies and gentlemen, that equals the playoffs. |

i totaly agree. no way is smoot going to be our #1 cb, i reserve that spot for springs or bly. smoot, imo, will battle rogers in camp for the #2 spot. i'm not ready to call rogers a bust just yet. he was ok in his rookie year and was thrust into the #1 spot of an already poor defense last season. |
