Taylor was he the wrong pick?

What is it with this guy? He has not been in a NFL game and he could already be fined by the NFL! I have to say this is starting to not look good at all!!! It is not like the signs were not there before the draft! Showing up out of shape when teams wanted a look see before the draft. I have to say he really didn't seem to be happy to be a Redskin when drafted!!!! Throw in other things like skipping several voluntary organized team activities dose this guy wanted to be here? I know we all had this debate but Winslow as I see it wants to play football and wanted to be a REDSKIN! What is it about a guy that is going to make a boat load of money that can't get his stuff moved and miss a weekend of meetings? Not like he didn't know when the meeting were or when he need to move out of his place. Is this the same guy that is going to remember what to do on the field this fall or when the plane leaves for a road game or even when he should be at RedskinPark? This is starting to look real bad!

I think he has had a run of bad luck, and that this all is a little blown out of proportion. I do admit I am nervous, but we got to wait and see what he can do on the field before we pass judgment.

NFLNetwork 07-18-2004 03:03 PM

He was the right choice....Bergman is right, he's just had a string of bad luck. We've all had a bunch of bad things happen at once sometimes. Maybe the appartment thing could've been avoided, but there's nothing you can do about the past. I think we all should give the guy a chance (as in more than 3 months) to develope our opions on taylor.

BossHog 07-18-2004 04:07 PM

Not to worry. This is all new to him. However, the game of football isn't.

jthor99 07-18-2004 04:15 PM

i couldn't disagree with you more redskinpete. He's made one mistake...Big deal he was absoutley the right choice for this organization. Im sure you were 21 years old once he'll get more mature as the season goes on. If we would have chose Winslow we would proably would have to deal with a holdout from him i really feel that Taylor will get an agent and sign a deal and hell have a good rookie season no need to worry.

offiss 07-18-2004 04:16 PM

Well his wonderlic score was as low as it get's, something tell's me the only thing he get's right, is on the football field.

That Guy 07-18-2004 04:20 PM

i'm nervous, but not an alarmist yet... i'm still waiting to see how it pans out. Hopefully he can get it together, if so, i'll gladly forget everything that's happened... he's not sleeping with 15 year olds or bar fighting, so they're really just minor offenses.

Daseal 07-18-2004 06:19 PM

You know what Marino and Elway had horrible Wonderlic scores too, you going to send them packing? Doubt it.

He's made some mistakes, he's probably SLIGHTLY OVERWHELMED. Give him some time to settle in. He'll sign by the first week of camp and we'll forget about this while he gives Quincy Carter a concussion.

SmootSmack 07-18-2004 06:27 PM

Yeah and Favre had a terrible Wonderlic score as well. And Brian "I tripped over my dog" Griese had one of the highest ever.

My prediction, HOF game halftime show, Al Michaels sits down for an interview live via satellite with Sean Taylor, "who just signed with the Redskins earlier today"

skin4Life28 07-18-2004 07:59 PM

LoL! Smootsmack, now that you say that I can see it happening. He would miss bout a week of camp. I am not worried bout Sean at all. He will be an absolute stud for our team, for a long time. And before you know it we will all be saying " Mr. Taylor, Mr. Taylor, can I get your autograph."

sportscurmudgeon 07-18-2004 11:07 PM

The Wonderlic test score is not a qualifier or a disqualifier all by itself; it is merely one piece of data. Some great QBs have had less than wonderful scores. Some bad ones have had high scores. But just in case you all think that it is meaningless, Akili Smith had a reported Wonderlic score below Taylor's reported score and look what happened to him. Similarly, Ryan Leaf was a low scorer. (BTW, I don't recall seeing John Elway's name on the low scoring QB list, but I don't pretend to have the list memorized.)

The Wonderlic purports to measure how quickly and how thoroughly a person can learn new things. Obviously, no test can give you an absolute and definitive measure of that. If one could, no college would ever accept a student who eventually flunked out. But don't be too quick to dismiss it entirely.

The SATs are hardly perfect predictors either. But, when you read that someone has taken the SATs 5 times and has yet to score over 700, you can be pretty sure that neurosurgery is not going to be his life's work...

That Guy 07-18-2004 11:12 PM
If one could, no college would ever accept a student who eventually flunked out.
actually.... colleges get paid by attendance, not academic success. Some people need a year to figure out college isn't for them, and the colleges are more than willing to accept that money.

not to mention team sports' revenue to the school, the members of which do not always have the best academic standings. But i agree, the SAT only truly measures how well you can take the SAT (this coming from someone who did very well on it)...

Gmanc711 07-18-2004 11:30 PM

I'm pretty sure he wont be in camp on time. However, I'm not even close to ready to write this kid off yet. I mean for the love of god, he didnt do anything wrong.

When he starts gettin DUI , and beating his girlfriend, or cheating on his wife like some other bigtime altheltes, then come talk to me.

ArrowsOverNFLEast 07-19-2004 12:40 AM

He Was Definitely The Right Pick, He Is Going To Be Amazing I Just Hope Its With Us, Because I Didnt Think He Looked To Happy To Be A Redskin Either When He Got Drafted. I'm Willing To Let All This Petty Crap Pass Though Its All Minor Not Major.
