I just posted 2 articles from Pasta Belly. They're on the news wire...

here's a summary of his 5 observations:

-Brunell stinks

-We gave up too much for Portis, but he's a one of a kind back, 2000 yards isn't out of the question

-Taylor stinks

-Williams will run an aggressive scheme featuring Arrington and Washington

-The d line still stinks

-Gardner could be in for a big year

I would say thats an accurate summary

say what you will about Lenny P. but he's telling it like it is. summarizing his points, everything seems backed up by warpath's own camp reporting minus our fierce Skins bias...

1. Ramsey is more than good enough to not have brought in an expensive vet.

2. Portis will be a super-hero, our offensive line will finally meet its potential. at the very real and significant cost of....Bailey. which leads to....

3. no-name rotating defensive front four. Arrington or Washington will have to blitz every down for any pressure and leave middle open either for runs or passes in the middle to good, but slowing Barrow. which leads to...

4. Taylor hasn't landed from space yet, as inconsistent on the field as off (and thats BAD). Andre Lott ahead of him. huge question mark.

5. Gardner is a good, big 2nd wideout to Coles, IF Coles stays top form. which already he's not. he's got the same injury he did most of last year and will be playing through it ALL SEASON.

:vomit-smi

sigh.....
guys, he's right. our offense is overqualified (two $tarter QBs), but our defense is precipitously just maybe qualified. most of the pressure is on an older injury prone Springs. he scares me to death. i don't expect much from the Dline, though a surprise would be nice if unlikely, and we're gonna have to rely so heavily on the LBs. face it, even if Taylor gets his !@#$ together, its good when a safety ISNT a factor on a play.

every time we're on defense i'm gonna be on the edge of my seat hoping LaVar or Marcus get there in time or for Taylor to save our ass if they don't. at this point i totally expect our offen$e to score 30pts a game, anything less would be just wrong and prolly not enough to win the game. :(

Though I'd like to see more from Taylor, it's not at all surprising that he's playing with the second team. He's been given a large signing bonus, he's been given financial security - this coach (and many others, I'd suspect) want him to earn something. Let him earn his spot.
As for Lott running with the first team, now I'm mystified.

Matty, anyone, can someone uh, 'expand' on this?

I love how this dusche simply assumes that the Brunell decision was Snyder's. We all know that Ramsey is Snyder's boy. So the offense didn't look crisp. Thats what training camp is for. He will eat his words.

Yeah I really didn't understand that. Seems pretty clear that Brunell was Gibbs' guy, not Snyder's. Lenny P just loves to bash on Snyder though, so that was a convenient manipulation of the facts.

I don't have ESPN Insider

bedlamVR 08-05-2004 06:16 AM

No no Ramsey is not necessarly good enough to go into the season and i have the feeling Brunell is going to show his worth when real bullets start flying he knows 100 times more how the NFL works at this point. We don't know how Ramseys mental toughness has been dented by the beating he got last year. One thing Ramsey needs is a confidence building year

bridaman51 08-05-2004 07:20 AM

They can say whatever they want about our D-line and secondary or whatever. Gibss, Bugel, Williams, are all coaches who have the ability to do a lot with little. I truley beleive the redskins D will be a surprise and catch many teams off guard. I really think the d line rotation will be good, for some reason I think Noble will have a big year, and griffin, salvea, with the rotation these big hunkers will be fresh, as will upshaw, wynn, daniels. I would not count or Defense out yet.
