He needs to come back next year to take us to the promised land. Give him one more year with a nice draft and FA pickups and he will take us to the promised land. Now that we have a QB and everything has changed, hopefully all the doubters will become believers.

Gibbs is going to honor his contract regardless how this season turns out. No worries on that. I agree, I believe we need to keep everything intact.

Gibbs has said all along that he'll honor his contract. Imagine the team at full health going into next season with the threat that Campbell appears he'll be. Make a solid run to the wild card this year, and next year, we challenge for the division title.

We do have a QB. Kudos to Gibbs for going out of our way and giving up a future 1st round pick to select him.

That said, Gibbs' in-game ineptitude persists. I think Saunders being here next year is what's critical. Campbell grows increasingly comfortable in this offense.

This is an awesome topic for a thread IMO, I totally agree we have a lot of young talent, we are still gelling after 4 years which is a bit frustrating, but it looks like we could be very very good next year.

On the other hand, we have a lot of holes in this team to worry about, and it might take more then one more offseason to become elite. This is what we need:

Young Solid O-lineman including at least one good starter and a couple solid backups (Stephon Heyer may develop into one of them)

A young shutdown corner

A DE that can do it all, and especially get more pressure on opposing QB's (Andre Carter is good, but not great, I'd like a D end that both forces the opposition to run the other direction, and pressures, hits, and sacks qb's all game)

A tall, strong, athletic WR to compliment moss and randel el

That is a lot to ask for in an offseason, our biggest concern has to be to sure up our Oline, if we can at least accomplish that then we will be a very potent offense next year, and will have a shot to go deep in the playoffs, but I think it will take two more years for this team to be elite, but as long as JC is healthy this team is going on to bigger and better things!

In conclusion I say if we make a serious run for the NFC title next year but fall short Gibbs should even come back for a 6th season, I think we're FINALLY on the right track and it is Joe Gibbs' doing.

Amazing how when we play it out to the en, yet still lose to Dallas, we love Gibbs, yet when we dominated Philly for the majority of the game, we're bitchin about how Gibbs has gotta go. Personally, I think he should stay, at least 1 more year, keep our draft picks, and make some good selections in April. Maybe we could get Jansen a non-injury set of armor, and we're set.

A year under Campbell's belt should cut fumbling and interceptions and stop losing the close games

Defense held Dallas to good enough score according to their previous games
even losing secondary stars except TO scores
Daniels played a game and the fumble and interception by Campbell hurt
Dallas in December coming and Campbell should be better then

Not sure I would go as far as to say we love Gibbs. Many on here do, but a growing number feel his in-game decision-making ineptitude is rather troubling. Had we won last week, this game would not have been as relevant since the Cowboys were already running away with the division.

Al Saunders staying on next year is absolutely critical.

That fumble was not Campbell's fault IMO. The INT was a bad play. Sooner or later, we have to see results from Campbell, though. He's got to deliver us a win, otherwise it'll be meaningless to keep talking about his potential.

Hit receivers in stride (like he hit Cooley today) for a TD. We need more of that.

It's funny that outside of the Warpath there is little belief (based on the evidence) that Gibbs is a big positive force for this team. The truth is that because of the staff structure it's very hard to know who is responsible for what, which is often evident on gameday. That said, I think the structure needs to change significantly for next season. Maybe that means Gibbs retires as I've suggested. Maybe it means Saunders goes instead. I don't really know the answer at this point, but what I do know is that whatever was tried this year was a flop. The only reason we lost the game by 5 pts today instead of 30 is because the ball was put in JC's hands. It doesn't take the "genius" of Gibbs and/or Saunders to simply put the f'n ball into the hands of the qb. Their combined genius is what we saw through most of the season up to the Eagles game: conservative, predictable, out-of-sync playcalling.

Anyway, I understand how some folks don't want Gibbs to leave, and I understand how other folks think Saunders is more important. What seems obvious to me is that things haven't worked out so well when the two have tried to put their heads together for the offensive strategy. Millions of dollars to a couple of offensive-minded coaches and the best results come when they finally just let the qb (who is awesome) run the show? Call it overcoaching, call it overcomplication, call it whatever, but the scheme Gibbs/Saunders envisioned, and what they stuck w/ through the first half of the season, is a dud and I hope to hell they don't try it again next season.

I am not real happy with Joe, but I think this is a great thread. I will be more than happy to have him sign another 5 year contract. Unless he says I'm out and I need to go retire again he is and always will be the best man for the job. Joe Gibbs is a legit football general and there are so very few out there.

I know this started out as a positive "why we need Gibbs thread" instead of the usual "Gibbs must go" thread that emerges after a loss.

IMO, Gibbs is a positive influence on the team to the extent that he commands player respect and gets the players to believe in what we're doing. Almost any other coach, and our bunch would've mailed it in for the season.

Gibbs has also assembled a coaching staff that couldn't possibly be assembled without his presence. Should Gibbs be gone next year, would Saunders stay? Not sure, unless he was offered the head coaching job. Bugel would almost certainly retire as well. I think Saunders staying on next year is critical to our success, given Campbell's familiarity and comfort executing the offense.

If Saunders staying is dependent upon Gibbs staying, then I'm all for Gibbs staying. Gibbs without Saunders would be useless.
