Pimp my Firefox
So I'm guessing everyone is using firefox(if you are not, shame on you). I know we have mentioned different add-ons in the past, but I thought having one thread that has all the great ones would be a good guide for everyone. So this is what I have:
1)Ad-block plus: A must which pretty much block all ads, on any site. 2)NoScript: For security freaks, blocks script, so pretty much takes care of the rest of the ads. It will block script from youtube, and other video embeds, but you can allow it to go through. 3)Ctrl-Tab:Pretty much like alt+tab but other options to allow easier changing of windows. 4)Download statusbar: This is great, gets rid of the annoying pop-up for downloads and a status bar will show of the firefox window. 5) NASA Night Lanch: This is the theme I am currently using and it is sick! here's a link NASA Night Launch . it is really good but requires some manual entry of code to the "chrome". If you dont know what I am talking about the site explains it. It is worth the read as my browser looks great, with an all black look, plus I modded Google so the page comes up all black. Saves power and my eyes! Any sweet add-ons that you guys have? |

If you're still in school I've raved about the Zotero plugin to create works cited.

Re: Pimp my Firefox
Anyone know why everything on YouTube is bigger for me in firefox then in IE. I love firefox but the fact that YouTube looks the way it does is pulling me back towards IE. Apparently though it's not the text size.

Re: Pimp my Firefox
I notice no difference between the two Dirtbag, except I have no Ads on mine because of the Firefox apps I mentioned above.

Re: Pimp my Firefox
Bugmenot is a good plugin to skip having to register with many media outlets.

Re: Pimp my Firefox
I'm probably one of the few remaining IE users here. The only reason I haven't switched to Firefox is because I'm happy with IE and I don't want to have to learn all the ins and outs of a different browser.

Hey Mooby... you'd be surprised at how easily you'll move around in Firefox. Both browsers have pretty much the same shortcuts (and IE borrowed a bunch of stuff from Mozilla- like the tabbed browsing). Firefox is just a lot cooler because it's open source... people are creating all kinds of plugins and themes to make it customizable to user preference. |

It's really not hard to figure out, it's very user friendly. It has a lot of cool add ons and overall it's much faster than IE and not such a resource hog. |

Yeah, I suspect it's something with how I've put the settings on my firefox but it's really driving me crazy and I don't know how to fix it. Heres a comparison of two photos that are essentially the same size. As you can see the Firefox version of YouTube is a lot bigger then the items on the IE example. Internet Explorer YouTube Firefox YouTube Edit: Fixed it. Just had to uninstall then reinstall firefox. Still having that for the last 3 months was really annoying. |
Re: Pimp my Firefox
On my Stephen King blog they were able to fullfill this request. Can we do it here?
Hey, I'm not sure how in the world these work (maybe the webmaster would know), but this site needs an icon for our Firefox bookmarks bar. Firefox has a feature where you can bookmark your sites on a toolbar (for those not familiar) and most of the sites provide a little icon that is used so you can easily see and click it. I have heard these icons called "favicons" For example, Monster.com uses the big purple "M" from their logo. Barnes & Noble uses the letters "B&N". Wikipedia is a big "W". I was thinking SK.com could use the little crow from the logo above or something? Right now all I'm getting is the little blank page icon and I have several of those, so it's hard to differentiate. By googling "how to create favicons for your site", I found a lot of tutorials for how to do so. I know it seems picky, but it would be a great help for those of us who use this feature. |
