Offensive Line... Where does Rinehart fit?
 

So has anyone heard anything about Rinehart? Is he still going to be an option at some point at G or C? Does Buges like the kid?

So right now... We have Samuels, Dock, Rabach, Randy, and Jon/Stephen

That is our starting line correct? at least how the roster looks right now..

We still really need help there... I would really like to see that addressed in the 1st round of the draft. Our line is to old. Randy, Jon, and Samuels will probably not last all year without injury. Randy and Jon cant last the year and they both will get tired as the year goes on..

Buges has said that "The lights started to come on" for Rinehart at the end of last season. We shall see.

I'd love to see Rinehart come out and maul some dudes in preseason and earn a starting spot. Anyone know where he'd be most effective?

I really think we're making WAY too much about or OL being old. We could start a 32 yr old tackle (Samuels) who is still playing at a high level, a 28 year old guard (Dockery), a 30 year old C, a 32 year old G who has had some injury problems and a 25 year old tackle who won the starting job last year (Heyer). We've also got a 23 year old backup guard in Rinehart who, by what Buges said, could push for time this year. Let's say Heyer starts and Rinehart steps in for Thomas in case of injury. They we've got 3 starters under 30 starting on the line. Are we still 'way too old' on the offensive line?

People act like we're trotting the Hogs out there, at their current ages! Even if we draft one OL, how much younger does that make us?

Probably LG.

Hopefully he can at least be a decent backup.

Rinehart is an enigma IMHO. Why did we draft him? What did the FO know about him? I mean most draft experts had him as a 5th rd or later pick, we take him in the 3rd and don't dress him for a single game. He was a LT in college small ball and easily has the size to play tackle in the NFL but somehow can't compete even on the interior at this point.

...btw Rinehart's situation is partly why I thing it's stupid for us to trade way down in the draft to get more picks. We don't seem to scout many diamonds in the ruff...Horton being a lone exception in quite some time and he still has much improving to do wrt coverage etc. We need to pick high in the 1st to have the best shot of landing impact player/top talent.

Based on how much he has been used, which is not at all, I would say he fits in just below whale doo-doo.

Technically the RG spot. As thats the spot that Thomas plays with a combination of being a mauler as well as a great puller. Rhinehart apparently shares these traits so I'd say RG.

I don't know why so many people are down are Rhinehart though. Does everyone forget that Dockery went through pretty much the same thing, the only difference is we didn't have much choice but to start Dockery during his rookie year. Give him some time. He's not an early round choice and therefore is expected to need some time to develop. Though I'm hoping thats sometime this year.

The good news on rinehart is that the coaches love his attitude, toughness & work ethic. The bad news is that they didn't think he was ready last year.

If that bad news carries over, it's still no reason to write him off. If he's as good a student & worker as the coaches think, he'll show improvement. It might not be till later in the year & it might be sink or swim if Thomas or Dock gets hurt.

No doubt that his development, or lack thereof, is going to factor into the draft. They can talk about best player available all they want, but I don't think they want a guard w/our highest pick, unless we trade back into the 2nd.

Last season, Rhinehart filled the role of the guy on the team whose game-day uniform never needed laundering and never picked up any grass stains.

With a lot of work and study in the off-season, the Skins project him to fill this year's role of the guy who gets into a game only if:

2. You need to get a QB or an RB injured so that he doesn't reach some really expensive bonus incentive in his contract.[/INDENT]

According to Vinny's interview, the reason he didn't get the reps or suit up during gameday was because he played only 1 position while Fabini and Geisinger could cover 2 positions. This year we should throw him in and let him get the reps he needs. We can never find out if he can play or not if he doesn't get reps and face the music and I think he will do well or at least a capable backup.

I'm pretty sure he played well at the Senior Bowl against some good competition which is why he went from a 5th to a 3rd round pick. "They" say he plays with an edge so I'd think he'd project to a decent run blocking guard but that's just me.
I'd like to see him do well in training camp and if he does, it's just a matter of time before he gets a start in the regular season with Randy Thomas breaking down due to injury.

The weaker of the guard spots is where he should be, so maybe RG?

Reinhardt will evengtually become a starter... but not this year.
