Wash Post Magazine: Letters of the Washington Redskins
This was in today's Washington Post Magazine:
washingtonpost.com This is a really cool insight into our team's history, why we moved from Boston to DC, and how polarizing George Preston Marshall was. IMO a must-read for anyone who is more than a casual fan (hopefully every member of this site). I had no idea how instrumental his wife Corrine Griffith was in bringing the Skins to DC. |

Marshall sounded like a major a$$hole. Not too cool. One thing you can say about Snyder is he goes above and beyond for his players, doing everything possible for them. He also goes out of his way to promote the Skins nationally as a top tier, class act franchise with the utmost integrity which they are. Hail!

Thanks, GMScud. Great read about Redskins history, especially about the period when the Skins were dominant in winning copious division and NFL titles. Sammy Baugh, among others, deserved to be treated better.

i see where Marshall died right before i was born. I can't help but wonder how many winning seasons we MIGHT have had if things were different..Good article.

Marshall was definitely a bigot, and greedy too. But as the article points out, he also did a lot of good for the game. There's a reason he was part of the inaugural class of the Pro Football Hall of Fame. |
Re: Wash Post Magazine: Letters of the Washington Redskins
i just read it on my trip from Ashburn back to Richmond. I thought it was a good read and found it kind of weird that they held camp in LA back in the 40s. I had also forgot the story about Sammy Baugh getting the new car and wrecking it the same day. Any of you that haven't read it; should.
