Stephon helps me and Edwin tremendously," the 6-foot-5, 335-pound Burley said. "You can call him any time of night with anything. He's there to help us just like he was with me in college when I was playing behind him. I feel like I'm making progress here, but I'm still trying to grasp Coach [Bugel's] technique with the punch. It's different from the punch we used at Maryland. Every opportunity to show a coach what I can do, I grasp it."

That's how the 6-3, 315-pound Williams, who was signed as a center, reacted to his recent move to guard,
Still seems like we have very little backup at center. I think I can honestly say this tidbit is more worrisome to me than any of the other OL development this off-season.

I like this move. I've heard Will Montgomery has looked good at C, and Williams is 3rd behind him on the depth chart. I think Williams could excell at G but it's going to be a work in progess to say the least.

It's good to have guys that can play multiple spots

I hope so. I know that C/G backups are good, so if this is saying that they are comfortable with his ability to play Center, and are expanding his talent than yes, I read too much into it. I saw it as they were giving up on his ability at Center, and was bummed. Hopefully it is the first one.

If you're a backup linemen you have to be able to play either G/T or G/C. Plain and simple. This is good.

It's been reported a few times that Montgomery has looked good in camp & been more vocal in calling out protections. I wonder if there's any chance he wins the starting job?

E. Williams was a guy that many were surprised wasn't drafted. I hope he can make the 53. He's probably too good to put on the practice squad, he'll get snatched up like Crummey did (wasn't he a terp too?).

I dont care if there from a community college, as long as they can play, get them in here. Heyer has been a good find. This is a new twist on Williams, had no clue that he had been working at Guard. Thats cool, I hope he makes the team.

You are right about that bud, especially with this aging line. Every backup better be able to play two positions.

He projected as a 2nd or 3rd round pick before breaking his leg.

Yeah but at times we expect too much out of our players.. oh you're a lineman you need to play all line spots... linebacker, same... safety, yep.. etc

Sounds like Edwin Williams chances of making the team have just gotten deflated, since he's moving to guard, and we could have used him at backup center.

I think he has a better chance than Mike Williams.

That's pretty much the norm for the league right now. Guys need to be flexible and able to fill in depth at multiple spots. Mainly I'm talking about the bottom third of your roster type of guys.

I think this actually helps his chances. We know he can play Center, if he can play Guard that makes him more valuable
