Random Thoughts...
-- Does Patrick Ramsey make that boneheaded throw if he had been the starter since Week 1 ??
-- Was it just the color adjustment on my TV set or did Joe Gibbs look jaundiced on the sidelines? -- What the hell is it with Redskin fans who wear green at a home game against the Philadelpia Eagles? -- If the 4-9 record of the Redskins is any proof, I'd say the debate about what it takes to win championships -- a great offense or great defense -- is officially settled. -- Jim Johnson of Philly and Monte Kiffen of Tampa Bay seem comfortable at defensive coordinator, and appear disinterested in head coaching jobs. A plea to the Football Gods: Please, please let us keep Gregg Williams next year, and the year after that, and after that... -- Before we go crazy with the "we're turning the corner" threads, and "game positives" posts, just remember: the offense only scored after a 70 yard kickoff return that put the ball at the 7, and after a rare turnover forced by our defense. -- Washington is 4-0 when Portis carries the ball 30 times or more, and 0-9 when he doesn't. What part of this fact is so hard for Gibbs to understand? Is this what we gave up Champ Bailey and a second round draft choice for? |
Beemnseven:
I'll try to answer your random thoughts I think Ramsey has some bonheaded throws still to make in his repertoire because I think that he still has too much confidence that his big arm can get a ball into a slot that it really can't. He has to learn. Wold he have learned more starting all year? Of course. Would it have taught him enough not to make that disastrous throw? I don't know. Gibbs looked fine to me in terms of health. There are a whole lot of season ticket holders for Skins' games who don't give a rat's ass about the Skins or even football. So they sell their tix for any "invonvenient games". These include Sunday Nite and Monday Nite and "bad weather probable" dates and games when the Skins are mathematically eliminated from the playoffs. There are thousands of fair-weather fans who hold season tickets. That's why there was so much green in the stands last night and why there will be a lot of purple at the final game with the Vikings. Johnson and Kiffen are significantly older than Williams and may have decided that they just don't need the added aggravation of a head-coaching job this late in their lives. Williams has already taken the plunge once and would probably take another shot if it were offered to him. Hopefully, that will be about two or three years from now... I agree with you about the threads on how the Skins have turned the corner and how they are one break away from being in the Super Bowl next year. Go check out the thread called "Reality Bites!" I agree that Portis should carry more. But last night, he just wasn't getting much business done when he did get the ball. So, I'll give Gibbs a pass on last night's run/pass mix. Now next week against SF has to be a different story... |
the reason why we win when portis carries 30 times or more is because we are already up and trying to run the clock out.

you can still run the ball for field position in a 3pt game. especially when your air game isn't very good. |
the skins will not lose another game this year!they will beat the hell out of the niners, beat the cowboys, and finish the year by knocking the vikings out of the playoffs,if not for that f#cK!d up PI call against springs, and ramsey's untimely pick, the eagles would be smartin .
this thing with gibbs is gonna work out guys,i'm telling you.today. |
Yeah, that Portis stat is somewhat bullshit. Normally we're down by 21 points and have to throw, or sitting on a lead, and when you're conservative like us, that means 3 runs and punt!

wasn't the case this game. |
While true that the offense only scored after 70 yard kickoff return and a turnover the Eagles scored what proved to be the game winner after a highly questionable PI call
If you look around the league throughout the year you'll probably find several cases where a team only scored after a big return or turnover. But it doesn't matter how they scored or what it took to get them there it just matters that they scored. How are a strong kick return and forced turnover not "game positives"? |
illdefined, you think 7 more Portis carries would have won us the game? I don't. That's one of those stats that means absolutely nothing. Next game we'll run him 30 times straight at the begining of the game to ensure a victory!

the stat is if Portis gets over 100 yds we win, not the carries. in the case of the philly game he had 80yds. 20 more yards that drive would have given us a much better chance to win, at the very least a sure FG for the tie. |
-- Does Patrick Ramsey make that boneheaded throw if he had been the starter since Week 1 ??
Short answer? Yes.
-- -- Washington is 4-0 when Portis carries the ball 30 times or more, and 0-9 when he doesn't. What part of this fact is so hard for Gibbs to understand? Is this what we gave up Champ Bailey and a second round draft choice for?
Sure, why doesn't he just start the game with 30 Clinton Portis runs to get it all locked up? Sounds simple enough.
-- -- What the hell is it with Redskin fans who wear green at a home game against the Philadelpia Eagles?
It's simple - they are afraid of getting beat up by the legion of Eagles fans who came to the game. So they wear green and when the Eagles fans look at them funny, they pretend to cheer for Philly.
-- -- Before we go crazy with the "we're turning the corner" threads, and "game positives" posts, just remember: the offense only scored after a 70 yard kickoff return that put the ball at the 7, and after a rare turnover forced by our defense.
Hey - we are averaging 4 yards per pass attempt. You can't argue with that. If we were averaging 1 or 2 yards an attempt, you might have a point. |
Short answer? Yes.
Give me a longer answer. Why do you think he still would have thrown such an ill-advised pass, assuming he would have had 12 weeks of prior experience?
Sure, why doesn't he just start the game with 30 Clinton Portis runs to get it all locked up? Sounds simple enough.
Obviously, the point was that Portis isn't carrying the ball enough especially against a defensive line that wasn't great at stopping the run all year, and at one point during the game was missing 3 starters.
Hey - we are averaging 4 yards per pass attempt. You can't argue with that. If we were averaging 1 or 2 yards an attempt, you might have a point.
Please tell me you were being facetious. My sarcasm meter is a little off today. |
Yeah lord forbid we say anything positive about this team whatsoever...some people might mistake us for Redskins fans.
|
I agree skinsguy.
I think we're all well aware that our record is 4-9 and we're yet again not headed to the playoffs. That being said there are still positives that can be taken from this season. Saying something positive about a player doesn't mean one's view of the team as a whole is clouded. |
Hell yeah! there are some positives. If you look where we were at this time last year, to this year, were leaps and bounds. Last year we showed little improvment over the course of the year, when this year I think we have. Our record may not show it, but we have.
