How to get Gibbs motivated...
 

In his interview with the Washington Post, Gibbs seemed a little ticked off at the media in general. Personally, I think this is great for the team. Piss him off, it just motivates him more.

Yeah.....he did seem pretty fired up today.


I guess that's a good sign.

It is not quite February yet. Training camp does not start for another 5.5 months and the first game isn't for another 7 months and you're happy that Joe Gibbis is pissed off. If he stays that way all year, he might have an ulcer big enough to swallow a billiard ball by September.

He doesn't need any more motivation. Maybe you would prefer to believe that he will work even harder now - how about if he figures out a way to work 25 hours a day? - but I doubt that he is going to let a group of pencil-pushers at a couple of newspapers determine how he runs his life and his team.

Being in the NFL should be the only motivation one needs. It does after all stand for "Not For Long" if you're unmotivated individual.

SC: I think if he starts feeling the media heat, which won't really start until we have another offensive year like last, that it will force him into changing and making concessions he may not want to (see "shotgun formation.") The media can control what a coach does a bit. Sometimes unfortunate, but true.

I think Gibbs will definitely make changes this coming year...hopefully more passing deep downfield, but I wouldn't hold my breathe on the shotgun formation.

Skinsguy - I'm sure he'll make changes, I just hope his main change is not handcuffing the offense preaching turnovers constantly. I agree that you can't turn the ball over all the time and get away with it, but when you have a defense like ours, don't be afraid to get risky with playcalling on their side of the field. Try things, be aggressive, our defense, chances are, will stop them.

Man we MUST have a shotgun formation. After watching the playoff's it is absolutely obvious that almost every team has it and uses it a lot. This isn't high school football, put in the shotgun.

I know it's not the 1980's or 1990's anymore, however Gibbs has won 3 Super Bowls without the shotgun formation...so I don't think it's really needed THAT much. The biggest thing is getting maximum pass protection.

Daseal - Yeah...we definitely need to get a little more aggressive with our offense while maintaining the integerity of this offensive system. Now, since Ramsey is obviously comfortable with the system and hopefully our WR's will be more competent in catching the ball, I think you'll see a vast improvement of the offense. I'm sure there will be a few more wrinkles in the system or maybe the use of plays that were already in the system this past season, but not used very much. Again though, I don't expect a huge change in offensive philosophy this coming season.

Yes. you're right the season is a long way off. Yes - Gibbs already works damn hard. But, perhaps, just perhaps, as Daseal pointed out, Gibbs will take another look at things to try and get a different perspective.

Perhaps you misunderstand. I am just glad to see the fire and sincere desire to improve - it was reassuring to see JG firing back at the bull the press were slinging.

It really was meant as a positive post - no need to get all curmudgeonly.

Let me ask you guys a question. I'm sure some awnsers will be biased, some what people really belive. I think this could be motivation.

If Joe Gibbs wins a Superbowl with the Redskins before he re-retires. Is he the greatest Coach of all time?

I think that would definitely push him closer to the top, if not at the very top.

Yes and they should Rename the trophy to the GIBBS TROPHY. Also Gibbs DOES NOT LIKE the shotgun one bit, he tried it once and the snap went over the qbs head and he said THAT IS IT WITH THE SHOTGUN. I forget exactly when this happened but remember reading about it during training camp last year. it was during his last coaching term with the skins.

I think he would be! Even though Dick Vermil cameback and won a Super Bowl...GIbbs would be the first to comeback and win a Super Bowl after being sucessful in his previous tenure....

I know he won Super Bowls then, but even he said that the game has changed a lot since he last coached with particular reference to the way teams blitz. I think that the shotgun formation might be beneficial to allowing Ramsey to go downfield more.
