Redskins trade for Free Safety Dashon Goldson
Dashon Goldson traded from Buccaneers to Redskins - NFL.com
Makes perfect sense and now we have our starting safeties for 2015. Like this move |
Re: Redskins trade for Free Safety Dashon Goldson
Agreed, this is a good move... It's basically a one year deal for 4 million where we swapped late round draft picks... If he sucks, oh well we move on next year... It it works out, great... On his bad days, he is a better FS than we have on the roster and likely any FS we would draft this year...

And the Buc's are picking up the money as well: UPDATE 10:14 a.m. ET: Per a source with knowledge of the situation, the Buccaneers will indeed pay the $4 million in fully guaranteed money that Goldson was due to make this year.
per PFT |

per PFT
Yea, it's essentially a one year deal for 4 million in non guaranteed money. |

Re: Redskins trade for Free Safety Dashon Goldson
what is not to like?
a 1-2 year upgrade at FS for a decent price. i would prefer a sideline to sideline rover at FS but i am not gonna complain, this is an upgrade at the position we most needed an upgrade. is anyone else getting really excited at what our madden roster will look like? |
Re: Redskins trade for Free Safety Dashon Goldson
I don't know anything about Goldson other than that he has not succeeded in TBay, he is older, he was a sought after UFA a couple years ago, and he is a former Scot McC guy.
At the same time, given the state of available/draftable safeties in the league, I find it hard to believe he could be any worse than what we had last year and is likely to be, at the very least, a minor upgrade. Anybody got a good scouting report on him that explains his failures in TBay? Did his physical ability noticeably drop or is it possible he didn't really fit schematically with what TBay was trying to do? Is he truly just the next Ryan Clark or is there potential for him to have a bit of a resurgence? |

Good move we r going to be much better on D

Re: Redskins trade for Free Safety Dashon Goldson
Essentially got him for nothing. Swapping a 6th with their 7th AND they are picking up 4mil on his contract. A bargain if you ask me. Low risk, high reward payoff.

a bargain ? he was about to be cut.....the fact that they gave up next to nothing indicates that no one in the NFL thought much of him- he is not a definite starter look at his stats, 1 PD and no interceptions last year = Ryan Clark 2.0 Dashon Goldson, FS for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at NFL.com |

Fangio plays mix coverages in the secondary, but going single high safety i believe was the main tendency in San Fran. Tampa was tampa 2 defense |
Re: Redskins trade for Free Safety Dashon Goldson
This gives us the luxury of drafting a FS later in the draft and develop for the future.

Re: Redskins trade for Free Safety Dashon Goldson
A two win team is letting him walk. Not impressed by this one. Seems like Ryan Clark all over again.
