False start, delay and illegal shift are all pre-play, mental mistakes and we're above league average in all 3. There have been a lot of bad calls against us and missed calls for us, but these, along with holding, are potential drive killers for an offense. I can see the argument for more camp and pre-season time, particularly JD5 getting more pre-season game time, but I'm not sure how that really does a lot for these mental errors. More practice time might help, but isn't discipline really a coaching thing? The team should be mentally prepared for every situation they're likely to face and no way should they be so out of sync in the middle of a drive. |

Giants have 4 wins and JJ looks like he has new life. They are only 4-5 wins away from winning the East.

Re: around the NFL week 7
Biggest issue on offense: Too many third-and-longs
Of the Commanders' 81 third downs, 48 have been for 7 yards or longer. So the Commanders are ranked 31st in third-down conversions at 30.9%. And when facing a third-and-7 or longer, they have picked up a first down only 10 times. It's not just a matter of running the ball better on early downs because Washington averages 4.1 yards per carry on first down. The big culprit is 16 offensive penalties on second down. Only one team (Chargers) has had more. -- John Keim
Penalties are a direct representation of coaching. |
Re: around the NFL week 7
Watching Mahomes now, and it's obvious he peaked in 2022. It's slowly been declining every since. Still remains good, but def not the same.

What's the purpose? They obviously can not get it all down so pull the plug on it. Worry about execution, not window dressing. |
