Football Question
I know this is REALLY random but i need to know this. Does Marcus Washington play "strongside" or "weakside" linebacker?? And does Tommy Harris play the 2 gap or 1 gap?? I thought my fellow football fanatics might be able to help me out.

Re: Football Question
Washington usually plays on the strong side, but in Gregg Williams' D, players can show up anywhere.
|
Re: Football Question
Last I heard was that the reason why we got Washington was so that Greg Williams could move Arrington back to his natural position at "weakside LB". So if that is true then Washington is our "strongside LB". But as mentioned earlier GW's LB's can be anywhere.
As for Tommy Harris I have no clue... |
Re: Football Question
TEs move on the line all the time though, and suddenly the roles are reversed
|
Re: Football Question
I'm pretty sure Harris plays the 1 gap
|
Re: Football Question
Washington plays strongside, while Holdman plays the weakside. Arrington is behind Holdman for at least one game.
|
Re: Football Question
holdman is able to play middle as well and might see action there in some packages later in the season (as per GW).

What are you talking about? |
Re: Football Question
I believe illdefined is saying that the strongside linebacker lines up over Tight End by definition. However, if the TE goes in motion then suddenly the weakside linebacker becomes the strongside backer

Lovie Smith runs a one gap defense, which means the D-Lineman are only responsible for one gap on the o line (ie: the gap b/n the Guard and the center) for a DT. Usually big fat DT are suited for 2 gap run stopping duties b/c they hold their position as the play develops and plan the attack as the runner goes one way or another while quicker players are better suited for aq 1 gap setup where they go upfield through there assigned gap and attempt to blow up anyone in their way. |
Re: Football Question
exactly, thanks TAFKAS.
gooooo skins!!!! |
Re: Football Question
In reality no team runs one type of D all the time at times the bears are 1 gap and less frequently there DT's run a 2 gap.
