re: Update: Second Boston Marathon Suspect Captured

It is unfortunate that real heroism is only recognized in tragedies. What I mean is, heroism doesn't just "happen", it takes a history of "right" thinking, teaching and practice for folks to understand the need and have the will to put self-interest aside when it would seem self-interest is at its highest value.

No one knows how they will react in a crisis - I am sure we would all like to think we would step up. I know that I hope I would. I firmly believe, however, those not familiar with the concept of self sacrifice for the good of others or who do not practice it in the little ways in their daily lives will be ill-equipped to exhibit these traits when their own lives are under threat.

So as we celebrate the heroes of Boston, as we did the heroes of 9/11, let us remember to, at all times, celebrate the virtues they demonstrated in crisis, to exhibit those characteristics in our lives as best as we can and to teach (and preach) the virtue of those characteristics to our youth.

Who knows ... you may be reliant on someone making just such a choice in the future.

Peace be to those injured & the families of those killed and may justice rain down on the guilty with the full power and might that right brings to the fore.
