2 things, one he may have been touched, I don't think they ever really ruled on that, but more importantly, Randle was down, kinda got back up and slammed the ball down in frustration. Griffin dove, and in the act of the dive the ground caused the fumble. Given that in that case the ground CAN cause a fumble, something I always remember hearing couldn't happen
, For the lack of a better explanation, Griffin didn't complete the act of the dive. If he had gotten up and dropped the ball it would not have been a fumble, but he didn't and it was.
It's just a dumb rule, but it was done correctly both times. And I am pretty sure my paragraph is as convoluted as the rule itself.
