He (and Bugel) created an incredible O-line that allowed 9 sacks (I think) all year. Any "decent" non-superstar QB should thrive in that environment. Rypien was incredible that year, and went back to suck head the next. The only difference was the protection. I think that is Coach's plan! brunell releases fast and checks down too quickly, he's been more of the prototype QB (when in his prime) of those guys that operate fine without a good line...
