This is great deal for the kind of player they want Chris Baker to be. I'll say that there's been a pretty big gap in the past between the kind of players that they've developed, and the kind of players that they thought they had developed.

The bolded statement is an excellent point. I assume that the Skins are indeed paying for the kind of player they want him to be. Chris seemed to take to the position last season. He improved as the season progressed and he really hustled which makes me think that he wants to be a better player.
Now, they need to forget about him as an option at NT and get him to lose some weight so he can be more effective at DE. I think that a slimmed down, faster, quicker Chris Baker could be a solid contributor at DE.
