I'm curious as to what the repercussions will be if college athlete unionization becomes standard.
It's said this ruling doesn't apply to public universities. This seems like an unfair burden to private schools, but OTH this will make private schools more attractive to recruits. So public universities would have to adapt, IMO.
Ex.: I think Coach Roy Williams at UNC-Chapel Hill makes a lot more than a state employee in his job is ordinarily allowed to, so his salary is competitive with the Coach Ks and Pitinos out there. So I think public universities would adapt.
What about the non-revenue generating sports, like golf and volleyball? Completely unaffected by unionization?
