You can't just separate the toe problem from the player. One of the big reasons he has the toe problem is because he refuses to get it fixed. And it's not like you can sign a guy and say, "hey, we'll sign you to a multi-million-dollar contract, but you can't bring your toe with you."
While I don't think Coles is "terrible" (I'd save that term for Todd Pinkston), he's definitely not going to help anybody win anything in the NFL. With that toe issue he is reduced to nothing more than a posession WR.
While I sympathize with his childhood plight, I can't stand him. He's self-centered in the way he demands to be used in an offense, and all the while he can't produce that way because he won't get his toe fixed. Good riddance.
