I will be pissed if the Redskins pass on these players for a guy with just size, speed, and/or potential. We have enough Amersons, Leribuses, Phillip Thomases, and Rambos. F*ck potential, Verrett and Bucannon can play now.
I think you are underestimating some of these current players.

I felt that Amerson had a decent rookie season. He should make big strides in his second year.

Phillip Thomas was pencilled in as a starter at safety until he was injured last preseason. I'm still high on him and I think he'll deliver on his promise this season.

I've criticized Leribeus as much as anyone about his lack of conditioning which seems to be due to a lack of motivation. Nevertheless, in the small sample of playing time he's had, LeRibeus looks to me to be a talented player. Apparently, he is in better shape this year, so I think he has a chance to be a good player.

Rambo has a long way to go to be an NFL safety. We'll see what happens.

Verrett and Buchanan may be better players than the current players you mentioned but we don't know that yet. There are no sure things in NFL drafting, so they are both only prospects with potential, as well.

Personally, I would much rather see the Skins pick an OT in the second round than a DB. I think that protecting RGIII better should be the top priority.
