It bothers me that Gruden called the collapse of the defense against Minnesota a "collective" failure. That's because when everybody is to blame then supposedly nobody is to blame.

It bothers me even more that he went on to say that "no one coach" is to blame. I read this as an indirect defense of Haslett.

The way I see it, if the whole damn defense can't figure out their assignments, then there is indeed one coach to blame and that coach is the DC. If the defense continues to look clueless and the DC is not replaced, then there will be another coach to blame, the HC.
