one of my pet peeves occurred yesterday at the end of the fsu vs bc game.
fsu was killing clock and trying to gain several more yards for the game-winning field goal attempt. bc had no timeouts left, while fsu had all 3, i believe.
the run the ball on 3rd down as the clock ticks down under 10 seconds. it's now 4th down and the clock is ticking down 09... 08... 07... aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand they call timeout w 7 seconds left!
WHY?!?
why not call that timeout w 3 or 2 seconds on the clock? a field goal attempt takes 3 seconds. why leave any time on the clock?
