Perhaps you were exaggerating just to make point, but sure it matters. Look at Rex Ryan's defenses in New York. His offenses were bad pretty much every year, yet he maintained a solid defense. I'll concede that the offense can help the defense out a lot... that's pretty obvious... but saying we can't have a solid(or at least, improved)defense with our current offense is incorrect.
