In my work, even as a young unproven professional who has made some mistakes, if I do not project a confidence that I am striving to be the best and know that I can be, and that I am the right person in my organization for my position there would be repercussions:

1. People would be gunning for my job, or under mining me to make themselves look better.

2. My bosses would question my ability if I wasn't confident.

3. Most importantly, with all the crap I receive on a daily basis, I could not handle the pressure and my lack of confidence would hurt my performance.

Dude was saying something pretty mundane, and admitting he needed to prove himself. If he does, awesome. If he doesn't, oh well, good riddance, but not projecting confidence would not make that easier.

I think the comment + his track record + his history of mouthing off = blown out of portion. Take any of those variables out of the equation and it is a non-story.

Robert should look to his backfield on how to handle the media, where ALFMO said I agree I am not elite but I am working hard to become elite.
