As to the premise of the article, it seems like the writer wanted to make the case that overpaying was ok because you got players pff ranked high before FA(1, 8, 28). But having a high ranking doesn't mean that over paying for those players is going to give you a high grade when it comes to ranking the value added to your team. In fact the
FO article made the case pretty convincingly that the Giants did
not make money wise decisions with the contracts they gave their FA signings.
