My assessment of Kerrigan is that he is one of the few disciplined players on this defense. He doesn't charge up the field in search of personal glory, he stays at home the extra beat on play fakes to make sure he doesn't get gashed by the run, and then charges for the QB.

He chases the ball carrier from the back side like nobody else on the team.

He's heady and alert, he forces fumbles, and disrupts screens through recognition. He's not Von Miller, but he has a pretty quick first step, and is very powerful. He uses his hands well.

Most of all he's consistent. He's never missed a game, he rarely comes off the field, he has frequently moved inside to rush from the interior in nickel situations. He is our best defender not named Josh Norman.

I appreciate him greatly. Now, would he be the best pass rusher on a top 5 defense? Probably not - you would want a Khalil Mack or Von Miller or JJ Watt. But calling Kerrigan average is ignorant.

We're not a great defense yet, I hope McCloughan gets us there. But you guys need to stop and appreciate what we have. If you took Kerrigan off this team we'd be a bottom five defense, for sure.
