Initially, they show a very balanced approach and the offense was humming. Our opening drive was 10 min or so.
The Oline was clicking, and Jones was running as hard as he ever had.
And then McVay, Gruden, or whoever (Cooley says McVay calls the plays, but Gruden has to have a big influence) start going 5 wide with empty sets we stall, eat very little clock, and our defense is on the field for an eternity.
1. If running is working why go away from it? They came back to it at the end. The Patriots and us are apples and oranges. They find a weakness and exploit it till they can't anymore like calling the same play 5 times in a row. They force teams to play in ways they don't want to. We are allergic to success and go away from it on our own. The same BS explanation of the fades will no doubt be put forward. "We saw matchups we liked" The offense was walking it down the field with ease so obviously there were match up advantages happening when the oline and Jones were kicking their butts.
2. Our defense looked like pure crap in the 1st half. I don't see how Jay could have any confidence they could come up with a stop after that 1st half. The turnovers are great but really unpredictable. Why wouldn't Jay and/or Mcvay call plays in a balanced way to eat the clock and protect the defense, especially since Cleveland looked clueless at stopping it?
It's like they outsmart themselves.
Jesus.

I think they may become more balanced now that we have, IMHO, a bigger and more powerful OL group with Arie at LG and Long at C. They moved people today.
