It sounds like right now, he is doing really good. I understand the speed of it is different for each person. Some people have it for years on years before it gets bad / noticeable, while some people that get it are gone mentally within just a few years....

At 73 this could go on for years. My Dad died in 97 it wasn't this but strokes and the first only affect his swallowing but we never knew it and the Doctors never saw it ,we thought it was the dentures he had just had put in.After a series of a few more strokes he was bed ridden and died 8 years later.All I want to say is a long illness regardless of the disease is devastating to the loved ones and caregivers.
Please to all who are around my age or anyone with kids make sure all your affairs are in order for the sake of the family,a will , a "living will"and in my case I got a "no code" notarized statement to help out if anything happens.
