In his defense, however, watch the entire replay. ... After the play is dead, the Carolina player is still going after Reed. Specifically, he is yanking and tugging on Reed's injured arm/shoulder and then, as Reed finally pulls away, the Carolina player lands a shot to Reed's head. A second later a Panthers player pulls his teammate away and, as he is doing so, Reed retaliates. Had another Skins' player pulled Reed back, no penalty ... but b/c he had kept his cool UNTIL the retaliation, no real need to do so.
Yes. You need to be smarter and realize it's the retaliation that always gets penalized. At the same time, it really looked to me like the Panthers' player was intentionally trying to aggravate Reed's already-painful injury and then topped it off with a cheap shot to Reed's head.
Not sure many of us would keep our cool in those circumstances.

Reed's injured shoulder is the left one, the Carolina player was tugging on his right arm. And he was doing so to get free from Reed who kept holding him after the play was over. The shot to Reed's head is completely unintentional, he turns around quickly, again to free himself from Reed's hold.
That's entirely on Reed.
But I'm not mad at him, I feel like he shouldn't have been in the game in the first place. He was obviously playing through a tremendous amount of pain. Hats off to him for doing so and wanting to do so, but coaching and medical staff should have kept him out of the game.
You cannot play smart when under such pain.
