Bruce Allen says Redskins decision makers support Kirk Cousins | CSN Mid-Atlantic
Per Rich Tandler:
Is this Cousins deal really going to happen? You always have to be wary of anything coming out of Redskins Park. But by my count Bruce Allen has expressed confidence that the team will get a long-term deal done with Cousins three times now. Once on SiriusXM NFL Radio, once at the Senior Bowl with JP Finlay and now here on ESPN 980. This seems to have a different vibe than last year, when everyone seemed to be resigned to Cousins playing on the tag. I checked my saved notes and I've racked my memory, I don't recall one instance of the team president coming out and saying that he was sure that there will be a long-term deal. That's a significant difference.
That doesn't mean that a deal is inevitable. From the sound of things negotiations are in the early stages if they've started at all. It's not at all clear if Allen intends to get a deal done by the March 1 franchise tag deadline or by the July 15 deadline for a tagged player to reach a deal. There is a long way to go. But the vibe seems to be there and that's something that never seemed to be present a year ago.
