Simply the result of having a hard cap. It's not a mystery. That's why they call it guaranteed and if it's guaranteed it has to be accounted for on the salary cap. Maybe there should be an exemption you can apply for in terms of calamatous type injuries, but that's the risk that comes with fully guaranteed or close to fully guaranteed contracts.

I believe as long as Alex is on the roster for 5 days in 2019 the cap hit isn't onerous. We will have 1/3 paid this year, and then about 24M the next two year assuming we get a rookie, and Colt doesn't screw us by voiding his contract and forcing a starters deal (and if Thursday's game is any indication he won't have a leg to stand on for that - yes bad pun suck it up cupcakes).

Right now we are at 21Million free cap next year, so it will feel like the years of the cap penalty, but it is in fact what it is, and it's not going to change so the team just has to reset and push forward.
