Haha, I think it may have had to do with switching to a division rival. Even mentioning the Eagles (even in jest) is considered only less blasphemous than a switch to the Cowboys. I do see a lot more switching of allegiances amongst NBA fans, especially the younger generations. I think it has more to do with following players nowadays than teams for some. But it's much rarer in the NFL.
