My deepest belief about government is laws should be made at the level closest to the people they affect. So nanny state and one size fits all laws that the federal government tries to enforce through the interstate commerce powers should all be banned. Federal government's tasks should be defense of American soil and borders.
Immigration should be by rules but far more relaxed then they are now. If you get here illegally then you should be gone.
Pot should be a local not federal issue and civil marriages shouldnt have gender restrictions.
I am a libertarian with a conservative leaning when it comes to fiscal policy. The best government is the government that maintains a civil peace through fair and balanced applications of laws, allows prosperity through capitalist methods, protects the borders and sea lanes, and keeps their nose out of everything else.

I agree with this 100%. Most issues should be state/local issues. The federal government is so far over extended past what it was founded to be.
The older I get, the more I become libertarian on military issues. I want to keep investing in technology, but I don't want our men and women stationed across the world in places they don't want us. We're not the world military police.
