“Last Thursday, the day the draft was going to start, I had a meeting with Jim Tomsula, who is one of the best D-line coaches in the history of the league,” Francis said. “He told me that going into OTAs, that he thought I should be the starting nose [tackle]. I balled out.”
On Monday, Francis said he got a call from Redskins director of pro personnel Alex Santos and braced for bad news.
“He’s never once called me for a good thing, ever in his life,” Francis said of Santos. “He barely ever talked to me walking past me in the hallway. And he called me to tell me that they were releasing me. I never got to meet with Bruce Allen, because why would they want to meet with the guy that they’re cutting, other than it’s just common courtesy and respect? I got to shake Doug Williams’s hand — not even eye-to-eye, like walking by. He said, ‘Thanks.’ That whole situation was bungled. That whole situation was terrible.
I am so grateful that I’m out of there, because they don’t care about the film. They don’t care about who can actually play football. They only care about themselves.”
