And that is exactly what happened. McConnel again is opposing the ending of the last bit of the filibuster and although no longer the leader he retains the support to stop any dumping of it by MAGA. So, for at least 2 years the filibuster is safe (if MAGA strengthens their position in 2026 then all bets are off).

With John Thune possibly becoming senate leader you might be right about the filibuster staying in place for a republican he is relatively pragmatic
