I too agree.
Is he a nice person? Maybe to his family, but like many that get to the top of their vocation, there has to be a hard edge and a thick skin, so his public persona goes against him somewhat. But his players and coaches love him, so he can't be a total asshole.
Has he been a friend to the media? No, he definitely hasn't. But his job was always to deal with the media, not be their friend. If they've used that against him, that's where it gets petty.
Is he an ethical person? Well that's where it gets grey because he cheated twice, so that stain will always be with him. Possibly the biggest issue with those events is his lack of real contrition.
Was he adequately punished? This too is grey. Spygate - financially yes (and that's assuming the money came 100% from his own pocket), but maybe he deserved a suspension. The rest of the punishment was on the team and while that lost of a pick had an impact, it's one year in many so, for hm personally little overall impact. Deflategate - he wasn't really implicated but it's hard to believe he was totally oblivious, but we'll never know. Again it was the team that suffered not BB directly.
Is he a great coach? Absolutely, possibly the GOAT. He holds all the key records as a coach. It's doubtful any coach will ever do what he did again. And even, who's to say he's finished in the NFL?
Overall the bad can't outweigh the good in this instance. Whether you like him or not, you can't deny his achievements, and if this was about pettiness/vindictiveness then the voters and the process needs a long hard look (the HoF has said it is investigating). Whether he was punished enough is debatable, but you can't punish him twice for the same incident, especially in a process whereby he can't defend himself.
