C'mon, Let's be real.
The Spear is clearly a reference to the Reskins past helmet in the 60's.
The team said as much indirectly.
Anyone annoyed that our team is referencing native Americans can clearly see this, and so can every die hard fan.

The "new" reference to rome or Greece or something is just politically correct spin. Yes, it also ties to how many columns are in Washington, but if the team doesn't want a native American reference, they would have done a throwback to the yellow helmets with a R (as a w) or something new, like a roman chariot or something.

They are just trying to have their cake and eat it too.
I like the spear, and the Redskins.
The offense is not just the name though, and they are testing that in a trial helmet.
Is referencing native Americans with a different name also offensive?
It seems it is to some when you use the image of a spear, because everyone knows that is a throwback Redskins spear, similar to the Seminoles.

It is A/B testing in marketing. If it doesn't cause a stir, it can become permanent and we can be native American commanders/other. If it is a problem, we need to move on to some other group like military or roman gladiators or whatever.

Who knows, maybe we will be the Washington Gladiators.
It's just clear that the spear is associated with the Redskins and that is exactly what good and permanent Branding is supposed to achieve.

I don't buy the spear=something non redskins line
