Isn't it a bit of a tightrope for NFL players to walk (and many modern men in general) to spear strong and capable when something is eating away at you inside? Is this maybe a case of showing a tough exterior when challenged but not being right in the head for games? I agree coaching staff should have leant on medical staff (presumably the team has in house psychiatric/psychological staff?) to properly assess his mindset. But is it also on him to prep for the game mentally and if he can't concentrate, to tell them?

Not beating up on him, it is a from of grief, but he has to shoulder some of the responsibility and be honest with himself and the team.
