Re: Being a Commanders fan is...
I can relate to everyone who says it sucks.
I was brainwashed as a youth to the joys of winning and superbowls with a community that was clearly football town . There was a bond making RFK litterally shake when stomping "We Want Dallas" and looking above your head to see the concrete stands going up and down 1 foot wondering if it would hold or come crashing down. Yes, I was part of all that, as a kid and a young adult. I was a fanatic and I realize it isn't healthy but it fed me great joy. So for all you balanced fans, I aspire to not let it affect me, but it does. Being a Skins fan is part of my identity and a relationship I have had longer than almost every other one. So what is it like for me?
It is like being married to someone who is bipolar.
Great highs and great lows combined with a lifetime commitment through thick or thin.
I know Fandom should not be like this, but it is for me.
At some point, I need to reassess how unhealthy this empty relationship is.
It is not real. It is just football.
