Personally, I hoped Allegretti would come good, but it looks like he's struggled, though the backups have been lousy too. And therein I think lies the heart of the problem. With Tunsil out, and Cosmi last week, the line is weaker centrally (as Tunsil can be left 1:1 and Cosmi can help C). So we can't pound it up the middle. Bill isn't gaining the yards he should be and while some of that is on the OL, he has a part to play. All told, that's a weak run game and it weakens play action, so we can be a bit 2 dimensional. Kind of thing that rears its ugly head on passing downs; QB knows he has to get the ball out quick so it's bombs away or hit the short guy and more often end up punting. It's great having excellent pass pro stats but its less effective if we're not converting those passing downs into 1st downs. But at least you know you're unlikely to get sacked when passing.
All of which is why I was bemused that DQ went for it on 4th in a lousy field position (and when we were not chasing the game) and worse, tried to make the 1st running up the middle (given we got 2 crucial 1st's at the end of the Seahawks game with outside runs). 🤔
